Charges laid against Craig McLachlan

Dr. Blake star facing assault and indecent assault charges in Victoria.

Actor Craig McLachlan has been charged with assault and sex offences by Victoria Police.

Police confirmed that sex crime detectives charged a 53-year-old NSW man with one count of common law assault, eight counts of indecent assault, and one count of attempted indecent assault.

Victoria Police said: “We are receiving a large number of enquiries about a man who has been charged by Victoria Police with sexual assault offences.”

McLachlan was charged on summons to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on February 8, just 4 days after his defamation trial is due to begin in the NSW Supreme Court.

McLachlan is currently suing the ABC, (Nine-owned) Sydney Morning Herald and actress Christie Whelan Browne following allegations made a year ago surrounding The Rocky Horror Show stage musical in 2014.

He was cleared of an internal investigation by December Media of any incidents on the fifth season of The Doctor Blake Mysteries.

Producers acknowledged a “sexual, lewd, bawdy, ‘Benny-Hill-esque’ and crude” workplace culture but cleared McLachlan of direct allegations.

The saga led to Seven reworking The Doctor Blake Mysteries as The Blake Mysteries without its leading man. Diehard fans of McLachlan have campaigned on social media for his return to the title role but Seven is no longer proceeding with either.

McLachlan’s management said he is innocent of all charges and will vigorously defend them.
