Further Australia Day honours

Also honoured this week were wrier Bevan Lee, performer / director Ignatius Jones & two SBS Board members.

Further to the names I published on Monday in Australia Day Honours are these fine folk:

Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia

Emeritus Professor Sharon Joy BELL, Austinmer NSW 2515 For significant service to tertiary education, and as an advocate for gender equity. [She was Head of Studies at AFTRS 1990-94 and then Dean, Faculty of Creative Arts, 1994-2001. She is also an anthropologist.]

Mrs Elleni BEREDED-SAMUEL, Point Cook VIC 3030 For significant service to social welfare, and to the African community of Melbourne. SBS Television: Non-Executive Director, 2009-2014. Chair, Community Advisory Committee, 2009-2011.

Mr John Bernard DERUM, Waterloo NSW 2017 For significant service to the performing arts as an actor, director and administrator, and to the community. [Mostly in theatre but an early TV actor and presenter as well.]

Mr Raymond Richard HARDING, Springwood NSW 2777 For significant service to the broadcast media, particularly as a script writer and producer for television. He wrote 684 episodes of serial and series television in Australia, Britain, New Zealand and Sweden, 1979-2001, worked on Home and Away, A Country Practice and Neighbours, often as story editor and script producer. Lecturer in the School of Communications, Bathurst Campus, Charles Sturt University, 2001-2015.

Mr Juan Ignacio TRAPAGA (Ignatius Jones), Surry Hills NSW 2010 For significant service to entertainment as a writer, director, author and performer. TV actor and presenter, music video producer, worked on soundtrack for Strictly Ballroom.

Mr Warwick John HADFIELD, Newtown VIC 3220 For service to broadcast media as a journalist. [Sports presenter, Chief of Staff The Australian, marketing manager ABC Tasmania.]

Mr Bevan John LEE, (pictured) Darlinghurst NSW 2010 For service to the broadcast media, particularly to television. Lifelong script executive, credited in the creation and writing of A place to call home (2013) Winners and losers (2011) Packed to the Rafters (2008) Headland (2005) Always greener (2001) All Saints (1998)

Ms Pantjiti Unkari McKENZIE, Docker River NT 0872 For service to the Indigenous community of the Northern Territory. [Former Custodian Manager and Producer, Ernabella Video and Television. Film and documentary maker, 1984-2004.]

Ms Diana Rosemary TRAVIS, Pascoe Vale VIC 3044 For service to the Indigenous community, particularly to the 1967 Referendum Campaign.[Acted in Women of the Sun].

Member of the Order of Australia

Mr Peeyush Kumar GUPTA Mosman NSW 2088 For significant service to business, and to the community, through governance and philanthropic roles. [SBS board member since 2014].
