Spencer Gulf bulletin relocates production to Hobart

Journos remain in the Spencer Gulf area but not the previously-titled Southern Cross bulletin.

7 Spencer Gulf news bulletin has re-branded its local news service from Southern Cross News to Nightly News on 7 Spencer Gulf and relocated production to Hobart.

Local journalists will remain in the Spencer Gulf area.

The change in name follows extension until 2021of SCA’s regional television affiliation agreement with the Seven Network. The affiliation agreement allows broadcast of Seven’s metropolitan free-to-air television content into the Tasmanian TV1, Darwin TV1, Remote Central and Eastern Australia TV2, Spencer Gulf TV1 and Broken Hill TV1 regional television licence markets.

To avoid clashes with Big Bash programming, it will be broadcast in Spencer Gulf at 7:00pm weeknights on 7TWO from 14 January 2019 to 1 February 2019. From Monday, 4 February 2019, the Nightly News will be broadcast from 6:30pm weeknights on the main 7 Spencer Gulf channel.

  1. It’s goid though. I’m from Tassie and always watch SC/7 Tas news bulletins as they always use local personalities their stories are always top notched. Never always advertise to watch the news every ad break like *coughs* win tv. And the weather presenter is always enjoyable to watch with a good laugh.

    That’s why win failed to produce local bulletins because they couldn’t beat what SC/7 can do

  2. It seems odd having a South Australian news bulletin being produced in Tasmania. Distance productions have been occurring in other regional news productions recently. It doesn’t seem as bad as it would to have content produced at a distance as the content can be distributed through satellite uplink feeds. Preferably, it would be better to have the content produced locally because of local knowledge, however, outsourcing has been chosen.

  4. Is this a joke? Spencer Gulf is in South Australia west coast area, approximately1432km away from Hobart. Why would anyone in their right mind have a news service produced that far away from its source material. What is wrong with 7News adelaide ? it’s only about 270km from the Spencer Gulf.
    What are things coming too,…. really?

The GTS/BKN news hasn’t been presented out of Port Pirie for over 10 years now, it was done at Southern Cross Austereo’s hub in Canberra, but now it shifted to Hobart. 7 Adelaide has nothing to do with the GTS/BKN News except through the network affiliation deal with Southern Cross and unless they would get paid to have the news presented out of the 7 Adelaide studios, i don’t see that happening.

    2. …and WIN? Their latest addition is Tasmania news produced at and broadcast from Wollongong. Even 9 regional news is produced and read from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
