Yumi Stynes cancels Studio 10 appearance

"This is not because of what happened today between Kerri-Anne and I," says Yumi Stynes.

Yumi Stynes has cancelled her appearance due today on Studio 10, a day after her on air clash with Kerri-Anne Kennerley.

Stynes was due to guest present today but indicated on Instagram she would not be turning up to showcase her cookbook recipes.

“Instead I decided to give myself the day off. This is not because of what happened today between Kerri-Anne and I. I am feeling stable and calm and like I’m on the right side of history. Everything is ok,” she wrote.

“I’m not coming in because I really urgently want to lie around and do nothing. It’s very important.

“I told the new producer Tamara that I won’t be coming in tomorrow. I also gave her the number of my good friend James Mathison who kindly offered to fill in for me as he is available and has done the show a bunch of times and therefore I would not be leaving the hard-working team in the lurch. I have no idea if she will take me up on the suggestion and it’s not my problem. Peace, friends. XX”

Yesterday Stynes and Kennerley disagreed over ‘Invasion Day’ protestors, with Stynes suggesting Kennerley was sounding “racist.” Social media commentary and media headlines followed the Live TV clash with Kennerly defending her views yesterday in a radio interview.

Meanwhile protests have been planned for outside 10’s Pyrmont studio.

  1. It’s really disconcerting that anyone with a conservative viewpoint is accused of being “racist”, it’s such an overused word, these days.
I also can’t believe Yumi told the world she was going to lie around and do nothing, instead of honoring her commitment.

  2. I can’t believe she would call in sick like this. It’s so unprofessional and something I wouldn’t expect a 43 year old to do. Her tweet speaks volumes on her true character

  3. ““I’m not coming in because I really urgently want to lie around and do nothing. It’s very important.”

By not coming in, she has dug herself a bigger a hole and will have plenty of time to lie around outside of her cushy KIIS FM afternoon spot.

She would have been smarter to have done some homework and come in ready to argue and articulate her POV strongly and got some ongoing gigs on similar shows like The Drum or The Project in the lead up to the election.

Now people are going to be unsure she’ll even turn up to booked gigs when the heat gets to her.

And lets not forget her comments about Ben Roberts-Smith on The Circle that effectively lead to the show having to be reborn as Studio 10.

  4. slow news week so the media tries to deliberately stir up this issue, bunch of white people on tv who’ve likely never even been to Alice Springs let alone remote indigenous communities discussing what is best for those people, nope not a good idea but it will happen year after year.
I see fault on both sides here, KAK not necessarily racist but since she’s been on Studio 10 i’ve heard her right leaning opinions more than i would’ve expected from her, hence i’m not so much a fan as i was in her ch9 days.

  5. I’m sorry she felt the need to cancel her appearance as I believe she said the right thing. KAK Squanderd her opportunity to make an important point by choosing her words poorly.
I do wonder if there is more to Yumi’s decision than we are hearing about.

  6. I think KAK was misunderstoood in what she said. Just my thoughts but I thought she was sticking up for the Aboriginal Communities in the NT and she was asking how many of the protesters had actually done something for these people instead of just protesting. She was pointing out the facts for the Aboriginal females in the NT about the rapes that are happening there & there isn’t much help for them.

    1. Not true, her main point was asking how many of the protesters had helped out the outback Aboriginal communities. She said “zippo’. Her words. How would she know ?? Does she know them all personally?? Why is she blaming and shaming them for not helping out?? Is it not the role of governments to do this? And why did she link the Australia Day protests to the outback Aboriginal issues. She was way out of her depth.

  7. simple solution to this issue. the media stays out of it. News doesn’t cover it. Journalist’s and TV personalities leave the subject well alone, If you don’t add fuel to fire it will eventually settle down. Year after year this issue pops up and year after year the media throws petrol on the fire and ignites it to a point where it becomes out of control.

KAK wasn’t being racist. If you go out to the rural Aboriginal communities they themselves will tell you they don’t care what day Australia day is, what they care about are the serious issues affecting their communities like drugs and alcohol, rape and abuse. health and education.

KAK was spot on with what she said and Yumi not having all the facts threw out the racist card.

Whether it’s January 26 or June 26 there will still be people protesting the invasion of white settlement. Every generation blames the one before…

    1. Yes it is too much of a complex issue for a short talk, perhaps the conversation just got out of hand. Sometimes when you are caught out in conversation you say things that get taken the wrong way.

  8. Sure Jan.

With regards to the protests…wow. So no one is allowed to criticize aboriginal groups? If they do they’re called racist??
What kind of country do we live in?
Violence against women needs to stop. These people attacking KAK are the problem.

  9. Wow. Amazing. Somebody needs to grow up. Talk about taking your bat and ball and going home. This does nothing to help the issue at hand. She is only thinking of herself. And to say “it’s not my problem”. Just incredible.
