Airdate: Brexit: The Uncivil War

Benedict Cumberbatch & Rory Kinnear feature in a telemovie on Britain's dilemma over the European Union.

BBC First will screen telemovie Brexit: An Uncivil War next month.

This stars Benedict Cumberbatch & Rory Kinnear and is written by James Graham and directed by Toby Haynes.

This aired internationally in January.

Summer 2016. Britain faces its biggest political crossroads for a generation. Remain part of the European Union? Or step into the unknown.

Pulling the strings of Vote Leave’s campaign is Dominic Cummings (Cumberbatch), an unlikely puppet master whose maverick approach is stirring Westminster. He has no time for prima donna politicians – and there’s no space for old Eurosceptics or conventional politics. The traditional campaign is dead.

In its place stands a controversial data-led strategy. Information mined from social media will not only help find key voters but will also reveal what they think too. But is it legal? Is it fair? And once the door is opened to this darker side of politics, will there be a way back?

Whip-smart and funny, Brexit: The Uncivil War offers a fascinating insight into a vote that has not only altered the future of Britain and Europe, but also changed the face of global politics forever. Everyone knows who won. But hardly anyone knows how.

Saturday, March 30 at 8.30pm on BBC First.

    1. If you think that a tv drama that was written and paid for by remainers which had lots of creative license, explains why 17.5 million of us voted for Brexit then you are sadly mistaken. Brexit has been 20 years in the making in the UK. We simply want our sovereignty and independence restored.
