Changing Rooms improves, Seven wins Thursday.

Ratings: Gogglebox wins slot and tops demos for 10 but new reno show is still sitting in fourth.

Changing Rooms has improved in its second outing without the competition from reality juggernauts, but not a big enough valentine to the network to rescue it from change itself.

The show drew 298,000 -up from Wednesday’s 204,00- still fourth in its slot.

Big Bash League (527,000 / 460,000 / 458,000) won the slot, then 7:30 (504,000), Young Sheldon (475,000 / 411,000) and Escape from the City (447,000).

Seven network won Thursday with 31.7% then Nine 25.6%, 10 18.9%, ABC 16.8% and SBS 7.0%.

Seven News (873,000 / 806,000) was the top ranking show of the night then The Chase (488,000 / 303,000). Big Bash did best for Seven from 8pm until Gogglebox kicked in.

Nine News was best for Nine at 749,000 / 741,000 then A Current Affair (646,000), Hot Seat (378,000 / 234,000) and movie Jason Bourne (312,000).

Gogglebox won its slot on 565,000 and topped the demos for 10 as the top entertainment show of the night then 10 News First (334,000) and The Project (323,000 / 211,000). Pointless drew 181,000.

ABC News (595,000) was best on ABC. Grand Designs Australia drew 345,000, Sammy J was 267,000, The Drum was 161,000 and The Tunnel just 99,000.

On SBS it was Secrets of the Manor House (233,000) but then low numbers elsewhere with SBS World News (94,000), Killer in our Classroom: Never Again (89,000) and False Confessions (65,000).

  1. Gogglebox nearly doubled the viewers of Changing Rooms despite the 8:40pm start. I think that shows just how much a disaster it is for Ten.

Is Ten locked into its Googlebox timeslot with its Foxtel deal? Or could flipping them be an option? Although Gogglebox probably picks up a few viewers returning from Thursday night shopping in some states, so could be a risky move?

In the Changing Rooms heyday it was a 8:30pm Thursday show, followed by the likes of Animal Hospital or RPA at 9pm before the Footy Show at 9:30pm.

  2. Amazing Race Australia, The Mole, Changing Rooms, even Survivor to a lesser extent, all are shows that prove that more isn’t always more. The desire for every show to have a the same ratings night after night like MAFS, MKR, MasterChef or The Block is ruining the tv watching experience. One hour once a week and it would have worked I reckon.

  3. I have an idea for Changing Rooms! Hear me out…

    1. Get 5 teams.
    2. Air it over 2 nights a week.
    3. Each team gets the pick and choose which room they want to renovate for another teams house.
    4. When the rooms are done, they get either 1, 2, or 3 points. The other 2 teams get 0. These are allocated by judges.
    5. Now, this is where it gets interesting, strategy. When a team goes into the next house the following week, they don’t only have to choose a new room to renovate, they also get the option to “Raise a Change” for a room that was renovated by another team. This is their choice.
    6. If they “Raise a Change”, and the room is improved, the teams get 1 point added to their tally. If they make it worse, they get deducted 1 point. You see how this can get interesting (and where the drama is created).
    7. Furthermore, if a team gains one point after raising a change, then…

    1. Too complicated for primetime commercial TV.

Might be interesting for contestants who have a stake in it but not for viewers with their finger on the remote.

    1. Fair point. The issue is also that it goes down after Project on both nights. I suspect 10 will re-edit it as 1 hr into another slot. Not sure what they have to take its place, we should know before the day is out.
