MAFS trimmed for PG classification

Producer confirms "a robust internal discussion" amid reports Hugh Marks ordered the show to be toned down.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority has received complaints about content in Married At First Sight, prompting Nine to re-edit the show for Sunday’s PG timeslot.

Last Sunday’s episode drew a fierce reaction after a heated discussion, extra-warnings and heavy censoring. Media reports later referred to use of the C-word in the show, but it never aired in the broadcast. There are reports Nine boss Hugh Marks called a meeting over the show.

While weeknight editions fall into an M timeslot, Sunday’s earlier broadcast at 7pm is classified as PG.

“It is true we have decided to pull back some editing, mostly though to do with Sunday night because of the PG rating,”executive producer John Walsh told the Daily Telegraph.

“There has been a lot of discussion around the (swearing) and how we deal with that. There was a lot of thought given to how much of that we showed. There was a robust internal discussion about that.”

A Nine representative said the network would continue to monitor the content.

“This show is still in post-production, and any production company who works with us know we are very hands on and are continuing to evolve storylines until the show goes to air,” a spokeswoman said.

Complaints to ACMA have been referred back to Nine.

  1. now if they could only work out how to edit it to fit in the time slot and not run over that would be perfect , but alas no network has the technology to do that

  2. Sorry why is a piece of sh*t like this considered family viewing? this show shouldn’t even be on tv it’s absolute garbage. Move it to late night or stick it on the shelf with Karl Stefanovics career.

  3. I think that’s funny. They say they are cutting out the very bits that people watch to see.
What is the use of having a kids version , when kids today know that Spongbob is more realistic.
Obviously nothing will hit the cutting room floor. It will be all respliced for the Latenight version.
A good admission , — that ‘they’ are —-‘evolving the storylines’

  4. Considering this show is basically about sex, it’s very toothless. Compare our reality TV to pretty much any other western country – we are a sexually repressed nation.
