Miguel is first eliminated from 10 dance card

The Living Room presenter is eliminated ahead of Cassandra Thorburn.

10’s own ‘Spanish bull’ Miguel Maestre is the first to be culled from Dancing with the Stars.

The Living Room presenter was eliminated ahead of Children’s Author and ex-wife of Karl Stefanovic, Cassandra Thorburn.

He was culled a”I did try my best. I think in life I put in everything I have. We did everything according to plan. I would like to acknowledge the amazing Megan. I’d like to thank the cast and all the amazing people on the show,” he said.

It was a moment to make co-host Amanda Keller teary eyed.

The Live show had made tweaks from the first week, winding back the audio sweetening, plus more scoreboard updates and a nod to he band -all of which were TVT reader tips. Somehow the elimination moment was all a bit haphazard, failing to bring forward the final 2 acts (let the cast say their farewells as credits roll please).

Hopefully improved ratings today will avoid 10 getting teary-eyed too.

  1. Am I the only one to believe that Samuel Johnson’s judges’ scores have been extremely inflated? Yes, he was entertaining but it was not dancing according to the rules with almost no technique at all… are we judging entertainment or dancing? Otherwise, a great show and I hope it will get people dancing….

    1. This where the judges are wrong… they should be berating the trainers more. Miguel’s teacher got blasted for doing things that weren’t really related to the style of the dance but he was the one that got penalised for it. Sam is trying really hard and I feel that as he turns it into a ‘role’ he will get better. It was fun to watch. He’s a lovable larrikin.

      1. I think there is too much emphasis on “crowd pleasing moves” such a lifts and dips…. they are ok as long as they are part of the accepted moves for the specific dance…. Also, many of the teachers do very showy moves themselves while their pupils just stand there…. I agree that the teachers should stick to proper techniques and definitely show that their “stars” can do the basics well…. no idea how the teachers could be penalised (but they should)

    2. The show is more about entertainment now. It hasn’t been about the dancing for a very long time, probably since the magician won over Tina Arena.

  2. Oh I forgot to add – did anyone else notice that during Oympia Valance’s routine – she didn’t actually do much at all. Her dance Partner was making all the moves and outshining her, yet she got applauded for her efforts? Definitely rigged.

  3. Absolutely disgusted that Miguel got voted off and it makes me think it’s a set up. There is no way that Miguel was worse than cricket Legend Curtly Ambrose who is as stiff as a board, Constance (who?) Hall, the thrown into the mix Cassandra Thorburn, the mechanical Michelle Bridges and the delightful, funny but no dancer Denise Scott (who I do adore). Miguel was stunned and so was I. He really put his heart and soul into this. They really shouldn’t vote anyone out for the first 2 week. The contestants are not professionals yet they are told quite specifically what steps to take, how to lift, stand, kick, etc on their first week. Secondly, it seems to be more about the judges voting style than the dancing. I will say though that the opening dance routine on this episode was the best I have seen and I would love to know who choreographed it.

    1. Regarding the choreography, strange but there is nothing at all about the choreographer or in fact, anything at all in the credits. No one gets a mention. Ive just checked as I have it saved to my hard drive.

        1. I was referring to the opening number, group performance. There is usually a Director of Dance on these shows to help with all of the choreography. On the UK version it’s Jason Gilkison, a legend in the Aussie dance world.

  4. Inconsistent voting made this elimination grate for me. I felt that the score to Miguel awarded by Craig was unfairly low compared to other dancers. The score given to another young, pretty but equally skilled dancer was 4 points higher. Craig seems to be far more focussed on being the bad guy than offering any helpful feedback or consistent scoring. The other two judges are wonderful and at least give the “stars” something to work on.
The needless posturing, inconsistent scoring and deliberately placed barbs aren’t attractive to this viewer.

  5. I’m certainly not normally a fan of his work, but I was very surprised that Miguel was the first to go. I really think there are a few barely knowns in the cast that should have preceded him.

  6. I never watched it on 7 but saw bitz n pieces of it. Thought ide give it go but have to say i am enjoying it. Grant & Amanda are great hosts. I say c’mon peeps give it a go…..

  7. They’re sticking to much to the US format which is disappointing. They need to make the results be more of a feature of the episode by annoucing all the couples that are safe before the elimination or incorporate the “dance off” style of elimination like in Strictly Come Dancing and DWTS NZ.

    1. Annoucing all the couples that are safe before the elimination is what 7 used to do and it made the show too long (and those awkward pregnant pauses are hard to watch). A dance-off would also make it just too long. With the UK version, the dance off is held on a separate show which airs the following evening, after the main show. I realise 10 needed to give their version some fresh ideas. Will probably be the one and only series as it is not rating very well.

  8. I like Miguel but maybe his ramblings are a bit much for some. His dance last night didn’t have enough tango content & 3 lifts in a ballroom dance is pretty much unheard of as no lifts whatsoever are allowed in ballroom (you would probably get away with one). Not sure if any of this amounted to his early exit. I also wish we could have seen him paso. A shame 🙁

    1. Matalida R, I completely disagree. I had no idea who that woman was. Thankfully this page informed me. There was also another woman who is apparaently a blogger, who I don’t know, so my conclusion is that the word star in the title is a very loose term.

  9. Quite enjoying the show. Craig’s “dahlings”is starting to wear thin tho. Bit surprised Miguel was eliminated! I agree that Amanda & Grant work very well together. I also liked the shorter segment for who is eliminated… was always far too drawn out before.

  10. Disappointed with that result – I can only assume some of the tabloids are voting to keep Cassandra in to keep up their content for the next few weeks!!

  11. I thought they would’ve gone through each pair to say that they were safe or in the bottom two, as it builds a bit more suspense. Instead they just said who was in the bottom two. I can see why a few things were done differently as they didn’t want to be a complete copy of 7, to me, it didn’t quite work.

I think Amanda and Grant work really well together.

  12. I didn’t mind how they did the elimination. We didn’t have to wait for them to go through each contestant.

But I just wish they showed the charities they are dancing for when they put up the voting numbers.

But im enjoying it & its nice to watch a show where there is no nastiness or contestants putting each other down.
