Renewed: Modern Family confirms final season

11th and final season is coming for the Pritchard-Dunphy clans in 2020.

It was once must-see TV but Modern Family has now confirmed its 11th and final season, to wrap in 2020.

Created by Steve Levitan and Christopher Lloyd, the sitcom has won five consecutive Emmys for best comedy series plus numerous other awards.

“Chris and Steve have created one of the most seminal and iconic comedies in television history,” said Karey Burke, president of ABC Entertainment. “In its final season, there will be more milestone events that anyone who has been a fan of the series won’t want to miss.”

“For 10 years, our characters have bravely faced turning points in life and moved through them to great personal enrichment; we have chosen a different path by doing one more season of Modern Family,” said Lloyd.

Levitan added: “Even after 10 years together, we realised there are still some things our writers don’t yet know about each other’s sex lives.”

Modern Family was a huge hit for Network 10 until it lost the rights when contracts dissolved during administration, allowing Seven Network to swoop on several titles.

  1. Since the covid19 isolation has restricted so many things , i came across modern family on foxtel so I have had a big binge and I’ve only got a couple of seasons left.
This show is hilarious and it will be disappointing when it finishes. If you haven’t watched it, give it a go, i guarantee you will be in first of laughter.

  2. Modern Family ratings began to slide, (along with most US shows), well before Ten went into administration. At its best it had some of funniest episodes on US network TV. But if you do over 200 episodes of sitcom with the same situation and characters it has to become predictable and the number of great episodes each season declined. It’s time, hopefully they give it a good finale.

  3. I love Modern Family and haven’t missed an episode but I feel as though they ran out of ideas a couple of seasons ago and don’t know how to write for the characters or create story lines, so much so that some characters seem to have little to no screen time at all, they now have the next generation of the family (the Dunphy kids) reaching maturity and starting their own lives but they seem to have no idea on what to do for each character, Haley seems to just be following in her parents footsteps which was always going to happen from the start, you kinda just knew that. but Luke and Alex’s character seem to be frozen in time. A smart move would have been to have Cam and Mitch move away to live near Cam’s parents and have Luke and Alex move in to their house and rent it from them Allowing the location to remain but have a new “family” dynamic
