10 to screen 2019 Rugby World Cup games

10 to screen 10 matches including every Wallabies game, and the Rugby final.

Network 10 will screen 10 matches from The 2019 Rugby World Cup including every Wallabies game, including the final.

10 has Free to Air rights, including live streaming and catch-up, with FOX Sports having all games.

The 2019 Rugby World Cup will be played in Japan from Friday 20 September until Saturday 2 November.

Network 10’s chief executive officer Paul Anderson said: “The 2019 Rugby World Cup is one of the biggest international sporting events of the year and the crown jewel in the rugby calendar. As the long-time home of Australian rugby, we’re super excited that we can continue to bring coverage of this great game to Australians live and free, wherever and however they choose to watch it.”

World Rugby chairman Sir Bill Beaumont: “Free-to-air access is important to World Rugby’s desire to make rugby and Rugby World Cup as accessible as possible to rugby fans and new audiences alike. This deal will guarantee unprecedented access to Asia’s first Rugby World Cup and a tournament that promises to be the most competitive to date.”

Network 10’s head of sport Matt White said: “It’s fantastic for the game and for fans to see the Rugby World Cup expand into a new emerging market like Japan. And for Australian fans, the great thing is that matches will be played in a country with a similar time-zone. The tournament fits perfectly into our schedule, complementing other major sporting events in our calendar. We can’t wait to bring the best games of the tournament to Australians across all of our platforms.”

Anderson added, “In the lead-up to summer, 10 will be the home of event television. We’ll have a full schedule of sport – live and free – with the Rugby World Cup, our Supercars coverage in Bathurst, the Gold Coast, Sandown and Newcastle, the Australian MotoGP, and the four events across the Melbourne Cup Carnival – Derby Day, Melbourne Cup Day, Oaks Day and Stakes Day. This gives us a fantastic head start to launch our summer programming strategy to millions of Australians, setting us up well for 2020.”

  1. Looking forward to RWC. Network TEN covered the event in 2007 last time hosted by Bill Woods. Rugby Australia should have taken Network TEN up when TEN had a sports channel strategy the sport would be in a better place now. Its good that TEN picked this up will be good for them besides they dont have anything else at the time. As for highlights my guess is that World Rugby formally IRB will have highlights on there You Tube channel or Fox Sports.

  2. Rugby fans who cant afford Pay TV will get to watch the Wallabies games but what about some decent edited highlights where I would assume the other teams would get some coverage too. I can’t imagine that the over hyped commercial codes would miss out as rugby union does with such a prestige event but the 15 man game tends to polarize sports fans in Australia and the FTA struggles with promoting it. I’m not sure why most rugby fans would not want to invest in a month Kayo as the RWC only happens every 4 years, life is too short to miss out.

    1. yes Network 10 Sport need more exclusive content but they need to be willing to pay for it. i think if they want more people to sign up for 10 All Access they should have CBS Sports network content including Live content similar to what 7 have now on 7Plus will the College Sports channel PAC12.

  3. Only 10 games on free to air . That’s a disgrace when time zone suits. And I have Foxtel and Kayo. Rugby will forever remain a niche sport while hidden away on fox (and cricket will join it with taking away of internatuHere’s what I’d do for rugby, a league etc have live and local on free to air so every Waratahs game is shown in nsw , and so on

  4. 10 is going to be up against Foxtel 4K coverage and Kayo hope enough people watch ch10 coverage I think if they keep ads at the breaks they may do alright
