Axed: One Day at a Time

Producers are hoping to shop rebooted show elsewhere after Netflix calls time.

US comedy One Day At a Time has been axed by Netflix after three seasons.

But producers are hoping to shop the show elsewhere.

The reboot of the classic Norman Lear sitcom follows three generations of a Cuban-American family.

The news comes after co-creator Gloria Calderon Kellett recently took to social media to say Netflix loved the show but it needed a bigger audience.

“It’s been a great honor to work with the legendary Norman Lear on One Day at a Time,” said Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos in a statement. “I’ve personally spoken with Norman, and co-creators Gloria Calderón Kellett and Mike Royce, to express my gratitude to them, all the writers, the dedicated crew and the cast including the brilliant Justina Machado and dazzling Rita Moreno for creating a series with such humor, heart and humanity. This was a very difficult decision and we’re thankful to all the fans who’ve supported the series, our partners at Sony, and all the critics who embraced it. While it’s disappointing that more viewers didn’t discover One Day at a Time, I believe the series will stand the test of time.”

Veteran producer / writer Norman Lear also took to Twitter….

  1. #SaveOODAT is the top worldwide trend on twitter. Lin Manuel Miranda is leading a charge to save it, like he did with Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Vanity Fair says the cancellation is disappointing & pointed out like other axed Netflix shows ODAAT is owned by the studio not Netflix. Vulture has published a eulogy. Netflix’s tweets are also interesting. They thank Norman Lear and each of the show’s main cast followed by “And to anyone who felt seen or represented – possibly for the first time – by OODAT, please don’t take this as an indication that your story isn’t important. The outpouring of love for this show is a firm reminder to us that we must continue finding ways to tell these stories.”

Isabella Gomez has posted a moving caption to a video of the last curtain call on her Instagram (instagram.com/p/Bu_3zxFARbD/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link). We’re devastated in this…
