FilmVic funds dramas, comedies for SBS, Seven, 10.

Film Victoria has announced a $2 million investment in eleven film, television and online projects.

Matchbox Productions, Hungry Ghosts is a four-part series for SBS, which centres on three generations of Vietnamese Australian families touched by the effects of war. When a powerful amulet is broken on the eve of the Hungry Ghost Festival in Melbourne, a vengeful spirit is unleashed, bringing the dead with him.

Playing For Keeps (Network 10), children’s series Larry the Wonderpup (Seven Network) and comedy Rostered On (Seven Network) are each receiving funding for their second seasons.

Ruby Entertainment’s webseries six-part series Internment is about the joys of being young and stuck in a job you are not getting paid for. It will be released on Youtube.

Two fiction features are being supported, including Good Thing Productions’ Below, and four feature documentaries have received funding including:

Geeta by Some Kind of Squirrel Productions, looking at acid attacks on Indian women through the lens of a mother’s inspiring and transformative love for her daughters and the change that follows.
Suzi Q by director Liam Firmanger with The Acme Film Company on the trail blazing rock star, Suzi Quatro.

The Show Must Go On is a soul-searching journey from actor and first time filmmaker Ben Steel that explores mental health in the Australian entertainment industry.

The funded projects are expected to generate over $22 million spend in the state and create over 1,000 job opportunities.
