John Simm joins Game of Thrones prequel

Life on Mars & Doctor Who star joins the series on the true origin of the White Walkers.

UK actor John Simm has joined the as-yet-untitled Game of Thrones prequel.

Simm, well known for shows such as Life on Mars, Doctor Who and White Dragon joins Naomi Watts, Josh Whitehouse, Miranda Richardson, Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Georgie Henley, Alex Sharp and Toby Regbo.

Also announced this week are Marquis Rodriguez, Richard McCabe, John Heffernan and Dixie Egerickx.

Set thousands of years before the stories now unfolding, the prequel chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… It’s not the story we think we know.

Co-created by filmmaker Jeanie Finlay, it begins filming mid year.

  1. I gotta say I was surprised not to see him pop up the first time around. I’ve got no idea at what stage in the history of Westeros this prequel is set, but I’m calling it now: he’ll play a Frey (*possibly* Franklyn)

  2. Fantastic actor. Brilliant in Life on Mars, Exile, The Lakes and many more. So pleased he was given the chance to come back to face off with Peter Capaldi and Michelle Gomez in Doctor Who. He was given such awful writing in his first stint as the Master and apparently absolutely hated the experience so jumped at the chance to redeem the character. This prequel is looking pretty classy. Should be good.
