Kylie, Neighbours party at Mardi Gras.

It was a perfect blend of pop & soapie stars celebrating love last night on Oxford Street.

Kylie Minogue made an appearance at the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras parade last night, and there were reports she briefly joined with current Neighbours cast on Oxford Street.

Alan Fletcher, Jackie Woodburne, Ryan Moloney, Colette Mann, Matt Wilson and Takaya Honda were amongst the 20 Neighbours cast aboard an “Everybody is Welcome on Ramsay Street” float.

The float, followed by 60 crew & Fremantle staff, was given the blessing of Mardi Gras organisers after recent storylines culminated in a same-sex TV wedding.

Neighbours cast have also filmed scenes with a Mardi Gras backdrop rumoured to be appearing in 2020.

Kylie, who also posed with fans following a Kylie tribute float, was also rumoured to chat with Joel Creasey during the SBS broadcast of the parade, airing tonight at 8.35pm. She attended the event with Scissor Sisters’ singer Jake Shears.

Joel will be joined in Taylor Square by 10 News First Perth presenter Narelda Jacobs, The Feed’s Patrick Abboud and comedian Zoë Coombs Marr to host coverage of the event.

A slew of other fabulous celebrity guests will join the broadcast, including: legendary drag queen and reality television veteran Courtney Act, iconic actress Lucy Lawless, Australian pop-duo The Veronicas, former Scissor Sisters front man Jake Shears, dance trio PNAU, pop sensation Kim Petras, Lord Mayor Clover Moore and many more.

Along with these interviews, the broadcast will also feature the biggest and brightest floats and costumes from the parade. Commentary will be provided by Narelda Jacobs and Joel Creasey, as well as on ground coverage from The Feed’s Patrick Abboud and Zoë Coombs Marr. Patrick will also present another very special series of untold stories that will be shown throughout broadcast.

    1. I watched the live feed on Saturday night through the SBS app on my TV and really enjoyed it. It was the next best thing to actually being there, and a lot more comfortable at home of the couch with a glass of wine haha. I agree that I did not miss the commentary at all and in fact I think it made it more enjoyable. When you’re at the event you don’t hear commentary either so it helped re create what it’s like actually being there. I congratulate SBS for offering this as it’s a way for LGBTQI people to still feel connected to the community who couldn’t make it to the event. Thank you SBS!

  1. Mardi Gras committee and SBS should consider adapting the event for a live broadcast next year. Really wanted to see it live last night and was thinking about it, however, I could not go to Darlinghurst or Sydney because of other commitments. NBC in America has broadcast Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade live for many years and a Mardi Gras live broadcast would help raise the profile of the event and attract more viewers. It would benefit not only the organisation, but also the sponsors and event partners. Will have to see the broadcast tonight.

    1. There was a live broadcast, it was on SBS On Demand, it was live on Twitter and Facebook, people will say yes but we want it live, why not use another SBS channel? But there is no commentary, and the outcry that there’s not commentary means there is no way they can win. If you can’t watch it live through those other platforms well you just have to wait for their Sunday night showing.

  2. It really was great to see so many of the cast members were there. The rest were Tim Kano, Jodi Gordon, Ben Hall, Bonnie Anderson, Rebekah Elmaloglou, Eve Morey, Mavournee Hazel, Zoe Cramond, April Rose Pengilly, Damien Richardson and Nicholas Coghlan.
