Mad About You revival gets green light

It's official. Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt to reunite in a limited series revival.

The Mad About You revival is happening with Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt to reunite in a limited series.

The series has been picked up by subscription-based Spectrum Originals in the US and is due in late 2019.

Peter Tolan will serve as the showrunner, and Hunt will direct the first episode. Danny Jacobson, who co-created the show with Reiser, will serve as an executive consultant.

“We are so excited to finally be doing this and thrilled to have Peter Tolan as our fearless captain,” according to a joint statement released by Reiser and Hunt. “We promise you the same funny and heartwarming show – as soon as we can remember what’s funny about being older. It’s going to be great!”

“We are beyond thrilled to team up with Sony Pictures Television to give Mad About You an exclusive home at Spectrum Originals,” added Original Content head Katherine Pope in a statement. “Two decades ago, fans fell in love with this show, and this time will be no different as Paul, Helen and Peter explore modern marriage through the eyes of two people who have just become empty-nesters. We can’t wait for everyone to fall in love with the Buchmans all over again.”

The original series aired from 1992 to 1999 with Hunt winning four Emmys as Jamie Buchman.

Hunt is also due to appear in World On Fire coming to BBC First

  1. I was only just Googling about this on Wednesday to see if it was still going ahead, and found articles from July and October 2018 still saying it was hopeful. It’ll be interesting to see how this goes. I used to enjoy the original, with the exception of a few of it’s supporting characters (all parents and cousin Ira), but by the time they had the baby I stopped watching because the storylines became ridiculous and\or unfunny. The final episode was terrible. One thing though is that unlike many other 90’s shows like Seinfeld, Nanny, Fraiser, Friends, this is one show I never got into again during reruns.

    1. Yes, same here. can not re watch this show. I find the leads incredibly annoying . I used to like the parents when I watched back in the day though.

    1. What’s that got to do with this article? LOL

But for good measure, Helen Hunt’s Academy Award winning role “As Good As It Gets” is also on TV, tomorrow night on 7TWO.
