MAFS participant guilty of drink driving

Magistrate describes Ines Basic as behaving like "an absolute brat" and orders her to 70 hours of community service.

Married at First Sight participant Ines Basic behaved like an “absolute brat” after drinking driving and swearing at police on Christmas Day, a magistrate at Cleveland Magistrates Court said today.

29 year old Basic pleaded guilty to drink driving and obstructing police among other offences.

The court heard Basic had been drinking champagne and vodka from about 10am on Christmas Day 2018. Police were called after she intentionally ran into a vehicle parked in a driveway at 7pm in Redland Bay.

Basic tried to stop an officer from getting out of a police car and later told a female officer to “f****** arrest me, arrest me b****” when they arrived. She gave officers a false name of “Vanessa Dorothy Ines” and recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.146.

Her lawyer asked for a conviction not to be recorded so his client could travel to the US where she had media opportunities lined up.

Magistrate Deborah Vasta ordered Basic to serve 70 hours of community service to help her “get into reality” and understand the “real fabric of society.”

Basic was snapped by waiting media when she arrived at court via limousine, with a bodyguard in tow.

In an unrelated case another MAFS participant, Daniel Webb is facing charges over his alleged involvement in a telemarketing scam.

Media reports suggest as part of his bail conditions he had to “check in at the police station every fortnight and had to fly home from filming MAFS to undertake these check in to ensure he wasn’t breaching his conditions.” The case returns to Brisbane Magistrate’s Court in May.
