Nine rules Sunday, Australian Grand Prix up for 10.

Ratings: The Grand Prix helped Sunday Project to a boost, but nothing gets in the way of MAFS.

The Australian Grand Prix drew 649,000 for 10 yesterday, dominating daytime television, with 565,000 for the podium win by Valtteri Bottas.

That was up on 2018’s 612,000 / 281,000 even if it was out of primetime, and helped The Sunday Project to a lift.

But come 7pm Married at First Sight slayed all before it, and topped the demos, at 1.48m viewers -its second biggest audience all year.

My Kitchen Rules drew just 560,000 in preliminary figures but Seven advises a coding error will see it adjust to 723,000.

Restoration Australia, from 7:40pm was third in its slot at 533,000. Sunday Night Takeaway was fourth at 279,000, only benefiting by 20,000 from a 7pm start.

Nine network won Sunday with 38.0% then Seven 25.3%, ABC 18.5%, 10 12.2% and SBS 6.0%.

Nine News won its slot at 1.03m then 60 Minutes at 689,000. Children Who Kill drew 371,000.

Seven News pulled 945,000 for Seven. Sunday Night has a preliminary figure of just 165,000 but will be adjusted to 417,000. Billy Connolly: The Ultimate World Tour will be adjusted to 197,000.

ABC News was high at 756,000 as was Vera at 632,000 and led from around 9:20pm. Restoration Australia debuted to 533,000 and The Indian Dream Hotel drew 144,000.

Outside of the Grand Prix, The Sunday Project was 343,000 / 334,000. Hughesy We Have a Problem was 294,000 -notably higher than SNT. Later NCIS was 164,000.

On SBS it was SBS World News (141,000), The Five Billion Pound Super Sewer (133,000), and John & Yoko: Above Us Only Sky (115,000).

9GO!’s Big Bang bested multichannels at 151,000.

  1. I enjoyed TEN’s F1 telecast shame that that’s the only live race they have. The same will happen in UK with SKY taking over exclusive rights telecast. whould have been awesome to see the Live edition of the project not a 30 minute delay.

  2. The F1 was great viewing , well for me….that track is good, for this TV viewer and the race was awesome….albeit sad for the Aussie, bad start….
    I stayed on 10 for The Project and Sunday Night show…went to 10BOLD for the movie Rush….
    I have to yet watch Vera….thank goodness for iview….I normally watch when it goes to air.

  3. I really wish Ten and Rove would consider bringing back Rove live for Sunday nights 8.30/9.30 slot. I miss good fun celebrity interviews and laughter on Sunday nights and of course I loved how it got a little naughty at times. I still to this day sound out Robot Rudd with my Bro for a laugh.

  4. Just because someone is successful in a particular acting role or hosting position doesn’t mean that we want to see them in every drama or game show or entertainment show on TV. This is not just about Julia Morris, Australian TV seems to recycle hosts & actors ad nauseum. Some new faces would be appreciated in lead/hosting roles.

  5. I didn’t even give SNT a chance because Julia Morris was hosting. I 10 learn that they cannot just recycle the same hosts over and over. I’m sure by not having The Living Room airing so far this year has brought down their Friday night ratings share.

  6. I hope Takeaway doesn’t detract from Im a celeb next year, as Chris and Julia were great in the jungle, but seem to have lost the intimacy of the show with their huge set now.
