Last night’s season opener between the Storm and Broncos is the highest ever rating Thursday night game on the 2 year old FOX League.
The 338,000 national audience was a 27% increase on last year’s season opening audience of 267, 000 between the Dragons v Broncos.
Available on Kayo, it was also the highest ever rating regular season simulcast match.
Meanwhile the game drew 524,000 in 5 city metro on Nine, up by 2% on Round 1 season opener last year. Another 325,000 watched regionally on Nine.
Tonight’s clash between the Newcastle Knights and Cronulla Sharks marks the first NRL game to be broadcast in 4K Ultra HD on Foxtel.

Yay, so happy for the NRL and everything/everyone involved. Really glad the Ratings are up on all Networks.! Like they all say: it really is “The Greatest Game Of All” and I’m so proud of it, it truly is..!!
Does the 338k figure include Kayo and Foxtel Go / Now customers? Glad to finally have NRL back in the screens.
It is linear only, so not Kayo or Foxtel Now etc.
Considering a lot of people have ditched foxtel legacy recently for Kayo, that makes the numbers even more impressive. Having melbourne play instead of the dragons would have helped a bit but regardless, still a good improvement.
