Two UK dramas, both of which are currently screening on ABC, have been renewed for new seasons.

Death in Paradise has been re-commissioned for two more series following its eighth season run.

Ardal O’Hanlon will return to head up the Saint Marie police team as lead detective DI Jack Mooney alongside Tobi Bakare (Officer JP Hooper), Shyko Amos (Officer Ruby Patterson), Don Warrington (Commissioner Selwyn Patterson) and Elizabeth Bourgine (Catherine Bordey). Aude Legastelois joins as series regular DS Madeleine Dumas following her debut in the last two episodes of series eight.

Tommy Bulfin, BBC Drama Commissioning Editor, says: “We are delighted to announce that Death in Paradise is coming back to BBC One. The show is a jewel in our roster of top drama and we are thrilled that it’s returning.”

Meanwhile, US-based streamer Acorn TV has ordered a third season of mystery series Agatha Raisin.

The show is based on the novels by MC Beaton and stars Ashley Jensen as a PR guru turned detective.

Three feature-length episodes and a special are in the works. Agatha Raisin was first commissioned by SKY TV in 2014, but was dropped after the initial season.

The third season is being produced in association with All3Media International, which will distribute around the world including the UK and Australia, with Acorn Media International distributing in most other English-speaking territories.

    1. That’s one of the advantages of producing this type of formulaic detective show, you can bring in new supporting actors without effecting the continuity of the plot which hardly changes at all, non of the previous main actors like Ben Miller, Sara Martins and Kris Marshall wanted to be type cast or travel so far to do yearly location work, so changing the principal actors whenever necessary is now no longer an issue to the longevity of this successful show it seems.
