SKY News restored to Sky NZ

Following consultations, SKY News Australia is back on the air in NZ.

SKY News Australia has now resumed on Sky TV New Zealand, returning to the platform yesterday.

It follows the channel’s removal last Friday amid concerns around Live footage while events in NZ were still unfolding.

Last week Sky NZ tweeted, “We stand in support of our fellow New Zealanders and have made the decision to remove Sky News Australia from our platform until we are confident that the distressing footage from yesterday’s events will not be shared.”

Yesterday Chris Major Sky NZ Director of External Affairs indicated he wanted to correct statements made by Sky NZ and subsequently reported.

Sky News Australia swapped the service to New Zealand to sports programming on Friday night after consultation and agreement with Sky NZ. It was a proactive and precautionary decision taken by both parties to ensure any live coverage or commentary taking place in Australia, outside of the NZ jurisdiction, did not compromise the NZ investigations and legal process,” he said in a statement.

“We have been working closely with Sky News Australia to discuss those concerns, and we were pleased to be in a position to put the channel back up yesterday. There may be some scheduling changes that are part of the ongoing management of coverage.”

    1. ABC didn’t “lie”. They reported what Sky NZ posted, which Sky NZ then deleted.
“In a tweet posted on Saturday morning, Sky New Zealand, an independently-owned broadcaster, said it had decided to remove the Australian 24-hour news channel from its platform because it was airing distressing footage from the shooter’s Facebook live stream.
But Sky NZ subsequently deleted the tweet, and on Sunday the Sky Australia chief executive, Paul Whittaker, said the decision had been taken jointly by the two stations “to ensure any live coverage or commentary taking place in Australia, outside of the NZ jurisdiction, does not impact the unfolding events in NZ”.
