Trump directs FBI to investigate Jussie Smollett case

US President Donald Trump says he will have the FBI and the Justice Department review Empire actor Jussie Smollett’s case.

While it isn’t clear what can be done about the dropping of charges, the FBI has already been investigating whether he had any role in sending a threatening letter that was mailed to the studio where Empire is filmed, a week before the alleged assault.
The letter contained a white substance that was later determined to be acetaminophen, or Tylenol.
Police and prosecutors say Smollett paid two brothers, Abel and Ola Osundairo, $3,500 to stage an attack on Smollett near his apartment building in Chicago, which he was made to look like the victim of a vicious hate crime.
Meanwhile Smollett’s attorney Patrica Brown Holmes has issued a statement condemning the local authorities in Chicago for continued criticisms.
“We are disappointed the local authorities have continued their campaign against Jussie Smollett after the charges against him have been dropped. The facts are clear. The Assistant State’s Attorney appeared in court and dismissed the charges. Mr. Smollett forfeited his bond. The case is closed. No public official has the right to violate Mr. Smollett’s due process rights.”
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel described the dropping of charges as a whitewash of justice.
“It’s Mr. Smollett who committed this hoax. He’s still saying he’s innocent, still running down the Chicago Police Department. How dare he? How dare he?”

The FBI should be looking in to Trump.
The FBI can walk and chew gum at the same time, if they want to.
Haven’t they been doing that for the last couple of years and found nothing worth charging him for.
Anyway, good that the FBI is looking into the Smollett case. Those who are actual victims going forward are in for a much harder time. Its quite sad what has happened.
The guy’s guilty of inciting far left racist hatred. Should be dealt with accordingly under hate crime legislation.
You know you screwed up when the president of the United States sics the FBI on you.
For once I agree with Trump. Smollett made the bar higher for all future victims of hate crimes to deal with when they come forward. If he’s innocent, he should welcome a trial to clear his name. This is an embarrassment to the US.
