Country music singer Kate Cook, discovered on Australian Idol 2009 has died, aged just 36.

The Queensland singer went missing on Sunday evening when she wandered off from her Lowood home into the mountains, the Weekly Times reported.

Friends alerted police, concerned about her mental state and a search found her body in bushland on Monday morning.

Police are reportedly not treating her death as suspicious.

Cook made it to the top six on the Australian Idol in 2009, the final season for the show won by Stan Walker.

Fellow singer Casey Barnes, said on social media, “This is the Kate Cook I remember and loved. We were only just talking about organising a ten year Idol reunion this year… you were such a beautiful person inside & out.”

“Absolutely gutted but hope you’re up there with your mum now.”

  1. Very sad to read this. Lowood, Queensland and the surrounding area is very beautiful and generally peaceful and is known to have a vibrant arts and cultural scene. Also very sad to find out that Keith Flint from The Prodigy had passed too in England. Their music videos had been shown a lot on Rage over the years and they might have a tribute show of The Prodigy music videos as they usually do in these circumstances after the passing of famous musicians. ABC might have Kate Cook music videos in their archive that Rage could consider broadcasting too as a tribute.
