Andrew Knight, Daina Reid honoured by Film Victoria

Screenwriter Andrew Knight and Director Daina Reid both recognised for their body of work.

Screenwriter Andrew Knight and Director Daina Reid were last night honoured by Film Victoria at its annual screen awards.

Andrew Knight  (pictured left) was recognised with the 2019 Jan Sardi (pictured right) Award for his significant achievements as a screenwriter.

His body of work includes Fast Forward, Full Frontal, SeaChange, Jack Irish, The Water Diviner, Ali’s Wedding and Hacksaw Ridge which landed a BAFTA nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2017.

Daina Reid was awarded the 2019 Fred Schepisi Award for significant achievement in directing.

Her credits include Blue Heelers, The Secret Life of Us, Rush, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, Offspring, Paper Giants, Howzat! Kerry Packer’s War, Never Tear Us Apart: The Untold Story of INXS, The Secret River, Sunshine and I Love You Too. She received a Directors Guild of America nomination for The Handmaid’s Tale. Reid is currently filming in Canada.

The 2019 John Howie Award was presented to games advocate Antony (Tony) Reed and Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) Chair Claire Dobbin AM was recognised with the 2019 Jill Robb Award for outstanding leadership, achievement and service to the screen industry.

Film Victoria CEO Caroline Pitcher said: “We’re thrilled to honour Claire Dobbin AM, Andrew Knight, Daina Reid and Tony Reed for their incredible contributions to the Victorian screen industry. Together they demonstrate the breadth of talent we have in Victoria, and we know their continued creativity and leadership will help keep our industry thriving well into the future.”

Minister for Creative Industries, Martin Foley said: “Our screen industry plays a vital role in our culture, our economy and Victoria’s reputation as a creative state. From our extraordinary writers, on-screen talent and crew to our visual effects and post-production capability and our exceptional game makers, Victoria is increasingly recognised for excellence. I applaud the role that this year’s Film Victoria Screen Awards recipients have played in shaping our screen industry and culture, in mentoring and inspiring new talent, and in bringing extraordinary projects to life.”
