Bizarre casting move by Dynasty reboot

This one goes down as an only-on-Dynasty moment.

After Nicollette Sheridan departed as Alexis Carrington on the rebooted Dynasty, producers recast the role with a bit pf plastic surgery, having ensured Alexis was pushed into a fireplace.

The bandages were removed in the latest episode, “How Two-Faced Can You Get?”, revealing Elizabeth Gillies as her successor.

What makes it so bizarre is that Gilles also plays Fallon -who just happens to be Alexis’ daughter.

The move resembles a switch by Joan Crawford, then 60-years-old, playing a 24-year-old housewife in The Secret Storm for 4 scenes in place of her daughter, who was recovering from an operation.

Crawford volunteered to fill in for her daughter “because I didn’t want them to give the part to someone else.”

Apparently.

  1. I got half way through this episode the other day and I’d noticed that Nicolette’s name wasn’t on the opening and was wondering what was going on!! She was horribly miscast in this role!! It is a shame when they whipped off the bandages it wasn’t Liz Hurly!!

    That fire screen was pretty horrific tho!

  2. I saw the first couple of episodes of this show and I found most of the cast unapealing. The worst part was that they changed good guy Jeff into a bad guy, more like his Uncle Cecil in the original. I never stayed long enough to see Sheridan as Alexis, now she’s gone already.

  4. Yep Sons and Daughters did this with the character Patricia Hamilton when Rowena left the show. Patricia got plastic surgery, returned with a new name, and new actress Belinda Giblin played out the role of Alison/Patricia.

  5. Bizarre is an understatement David. This has caused quite a bit of chatter on social media platforms. I can only assume this is an attempt by the producers to increase ratings because the viewing numbers on The CW are woeful.

    1. As long as Netflix is happy to screen the show there is a chance Dynasty will continue, this creative executive decision with Elizabeth Gillies suggests that.

    1. Funny that. Sons & Daughters is still on repeat at 5am Sunday morning on 7, and the current storyline is when Rowena Wallace comes back as Allison Carr’s twin sister! Of course, Rowena had left a few years earlier and way back in 1986, they pulled the plastic surgery loophole to have Pat the Rat undergo plastic surgery to reemerge as Belinda Giblin!!!

    2. Rumour has it, the stunt casting was to accomodate the potential for Ms Sheridan to return once she has nursed her ailing mother through her current ill health.
