Renewed: After Life

Ricky Gervais set to return as a troubled widower in his new Netflix comedy.

Ricky Gervais comedy After Life has been renewed for a second season.

Netflix has ordered another six episodes of the show, less than a month after its debut.

Gervais had previously tweeted he was already writing a second season.

In the darkly comic series he stars as a local journalist and widower deeply mourning the death of his wife. The series also features Kerry Godliman, Tom Basden, Tony Way, David Bradley, Ashley Jensen, Mandeep Dhillon and Penelope Wilton.

“I have never had a reaction like this before,” said Gervais. “It’s been insane. And heartwarming. But now I have to make sure the second season is even better so I’ll probably have to work much harder than usual. Annoying really.”

Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos added, “After Life has moved audiences from laughter to tears around the world and we are thrilled to announce that Ricky Gervais will be back with a second season on Netflix. We are so proud to play host to Ricky’s brilliant stand up comedy, specials, original films and series and join in the joy of the fans with his latest hit.”

  1. Really, season ones final episode tied up most of the loose ends of this limited season show as far as I can see, obviously those ends can be untied again but personally I think Ricky should leave this story alone, it was clever in its own way and written for Ricky’s acerbic comedic style but there can be too much of a good thing, a sentiment which obviously Ricky who works in the USA does not share if its good for business.
