US Film & TV director, best known for Boyz in the Hood, has died after being taken off life support.

US Film & TV director John Singleton, best known for Boyz in the Hood, has died aged 51.

He was taken off life support following complications from a stroke.

“We are sad to relay that John Singleton has died. John passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends. We want to thank the amazing doctors at Cedars-Sinai Hospital for their expert care and kindness and we again want thank all of John’s fans, friends and colleagues for all of the love and support they showed him during this difficult time,” family said in a statement.

Singleton directed films as Boyz in the Hood, Poetic Justice, Higher Learning a remake of Shaft, the second instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise, 2 Fast 2 Furious and Michael Jackson’s music video “Remember the Time.” 

Singleton also turned his attention to working in TV in recent years, earning an Emmy nomination for directing an episode of The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.

He also directed episodes of Billions, Empire, Snowfall and Rebel.
