10 gearing up for Melbourne Cup

As well as Sports coverage, the Melb. Cup carnival will be woven into Studio 10, The Project, The Bachelor, The Living Room & Neighbours.

10 is teasing more about how it will broadcast its first Melbourne Cup Carnival since 2002.

Last year 10 snatched back the rights from Seven in a $100 million, five-year agreement from 2019 to 2023.

Network 10’s head of sport Matt White will be leading the on-air team, along with former Seven racing expert Francesca Cumani.

Studio 10 and The Project will also broadcast Live from the track, but the event will also be strategically woven into other 10 shows including The Bachelor, The Living Room, Neighbours, 10 News First and Sports Tonight.

“We’re gearing up to transform the multi-platform coverage of the Melbourne Cup Carnival which will, for the first time, include a multi-layered digital hub,” said White.

“At 10, we do things differently and we’re welcoming back the Melbourne Cup Carnival to 10 with a bang. Our editorial philosophy is ‘Access all Areas’ and this is exactly how we’re approaching our coverage and what we’ll be offering to audiences, advertisers and partners.”

The Melbourne Cup Carnival will also be present across 10 Play, 10 Daily and new podcast 10 Speaks.

Q4 will also include Rugby World Cup, the Gold Coast, Bathurst, Sandown and Newcastle Supercars Championship rounds, the Australian MotoGP.

The Melbourne Cup will also still be available on multichannel Racing.com and its app.

  1. “The Project will also broadcast live from the track”

Didn’t Carrie Bickmore say a while back that she didn’t like racing because she thought it was cruel to the horses? If so, it’ll make for interesting telly…

  2. Wow TEN talk as if cross promotion into their other shows is something they thought of.
“Strategically woven into other shows ” means what , Miguel will create some Melbourne Cup finger food the Friday before the race while Chris looks at knackered race horses as pets ?

    1. Sunrise went to the Cup, Today went to Aus Open along with other shows. Admittedly the Neighbours touch is new but this is otherwise fairly standard. Partners are always looking to be embedded into content.

      1. Neighbours tends to mention the race each year. They have had characters “attend” in the past. Maybe they will do “live” scene to reference and show characters watching it on day as EastEnders has done with big events/ news.

  3. The penny’s just dropped. That’s how that racehorse currently in Neighbours is going to tie in with the Melbourne Cup. I bet it will compete in it.

  4. The masters of cross promotion which leads them nowhere. We will see the same old handful of people who annoy many of us and turn us off from watching their shows. The perfect way to reduce the ratings even more. Good luck.

    1. Chris will obviously fall into the living room crossover, but I reckon you’ll be guaranteed to see all those 3 in the tents like 7 usually does with their talent.
