10 transmission shifts to Broadcast Australia after legal wrangle

After Seven & Nine move seize ownership of transmission service, 10 seals a deal with a new partner.

Network 10 has confirmed a new deal to transmit its three channels 10, 10 BOLD, and 10 Peach with Broadcast Australia.

The announcement follows a legal stoush over its ownership of TX Australia, which transmits the broadcast signal to homes around the country.

After 10 went into administration it triggered a clause in its contract for TX Australia, jointly owned with Seven and Nine.

10’s rivals indicated they planned to take over 10’s ownership but the parties went to court over an agreed value. Seven and Nine are now expected to pay $11m each under a Shareholders’ Agreement.

10’s only recourse was to strike a new deal with Broadcast Australia, which also transmits ABC and SBS, or fork out annual fees to Seven and Nine.

Network 10’s chief operating officer Annabelle Herd said: “We’re very happy to be moving into the future with Broadcast Australia. This new agreement secures our transmission with an experienced and trusted partner dedicated to excellence and innovation. Like 10, Broadcast Australia is passionate about connecting people with great content and we look forward to developing our free-to-air terrestrial platform in partnership with them over the coming years.”

Broadcast Australia’s chief executive Peter Lambourne said: “At Broadcast Australia, we are honoured to be the transmission services provider of choice for Network 10. This partnership presents exciting opportunities for both organisations and ensures certainty of service, continuity and reliability for Australian audiences. This collaboration celebrates our shared commitment to connect all Australians and enrich our communities with information, entertainment and services. We are excited to embark on this journey with Network 10, one of Australia’s leading broadcasters.”

Transition through Broadcast Australia will start immediately and is expected to be seasmless.

There will be no disruption of 10’s services for viewers.

  1. Happy 10 got this sorted….better price than $1 offer when they were down…and they do not have to keep paying out to the vultures that pounced…No friends in business though ..sad.

    1. 7 & 9 tried to buy 10 out for $1 which would have been loss to 10 and large profit for them. And give them control of a key part of their competitors business and they can raise the prices for 10. The court raised it to $11m so 10 doesn’t lose a bucket of cash on the deal. And now they have switched to an independent broadcast service so that 7 & 9 can’t try to screw them over.

  2. What exactly is the benefit for Seven and Nine out of this deal then? Does TX Australia broadcast anything else besides television, because if ABC, SBS and 10 are all with someone else, I don’t see where TX makes it money for shareholders?
