On Friday afternoon Tom Gleeson shocked fans on social media when he quit his hit show Hard Quiz.
Gleeson attributed the move to a busy schedule, juggling TV and live comedy commitments. While it clearly wasn’t April 1st, there were no jokes in his statement.

The resignation was reported far and wide (including at TV Tonight which noted Grant Denyer won Gold after Family Feud was axed).
Yesterday he was nominated for the Gold Logie, prompting him to declare…
I’M UP FOR THE GOLD LOGIE! Last year proved you can only win if you don’t have a show. That’s why I axed myself. When I win Gold, I promise I will un-axe #HardQuiz immediately. Please forgive me HARD! Voting opens June 24. #Gleeson4Gold #tvweeklogies pic.twitter.com/vYj9Z9Sono

An ABC spokesperson told TV Tonight, “Tom’s statement that he has sacked himself from Hard Quiz is news to us, particularly as we have 10 new episodes airing later this year. Sounds like Tom needs to have a good old HARD chat with himself.”
Those 10 episodes are already in the can.
Update: My info now is it was not legit.

Trust Social Media for “news”? Out!
Congrats to those who played along with the gag.
He’s hardly Gold Logie worthy.
The nominees list is very ordinary probably says a lot why Tom makes light of it all.
Haha well played Tom. Most Aussie comedians are mediocre – Tom Gleeson is the exception.
