Game of Thrones breaks Foxtel records

Everybody watched ...and everybody has an opinion.... as GoT breaks Pay TV records.

The last-ever episode of Game of Thrones has broken viewing records for the show both in Australia and the US.

In the US across multiple HBO platforms it drew 19.3 million viewers, overtaking the previous series high of 18.4 million viewers that was set just last week. That included 13.6 million people who watched watched a 9pm telecast on HBO alone, breaking the record for the biggest single telecast in HBO history.

In Australia the show screened multiple times and on several Foxtel platforms, amassing to 1.076 million viewers, the largest overnight audience in subscription TV history. The highest single linear broadcast was 335,000 national viewers.

‘The Iron Throne’ increased 6% increase on the previous record holder, season 8 episode 3, ‘The Long Night’, which held the record of 1.011 million.

The On Demand VPM of 432,000 is also the largest single day On Demand VPM rating in Australian TV history.

This season there have been 100 million tweets worldwide about the show. Yesterday the most Tweeted about characters were:

Despite the bumper numbers the episode was not without its criticism, currently ranking 48% with GoT fans at Rotten Tomatoes.

Foxtel numbers will lift further once 28 day consolidated data becomes available.

A 2hr documentary Game of Thrones: The Last Watch will air Monday, May 27 at 11.00am and 8.30pm AEST on FOX Showcase.
