Jamie Oliver restaurant chain in administration

Restaurant chain belonging to TV and celebrity chef collapses.

Jamie Oliver’s UK restaurant chain has entered administration.

The Jamie Oliver Group, which includes steakhouse Barbecoa, and Jamie Oliver’s Diner, employs more than 1,000 staff.

“I am deeply saddened by this outcome and would like to thank all of the staff and our suppliers who have put their hearts and souls into this business for over a decade,” Oliver said in a statement. “I appreciate how difficult this is for everyone affected.”

Oliver, who has fronted numerous programmes including Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution and Jamie’s 30 Minute Meals has used his reputation to put pressure on politicians to combat growing child obesity problems.

Five branches of the Australian arm of Jamie’s Italian have been sold off, while another was put into administration.

  1. Such a shame his brand has struggled to maintain momentum. Maybe he has tried too hard putting all his eggs in the “change the world for the better” basket whilst neglecting the “playing the game” side to keep the public at large interested and on board.

  2. Sad for the staff who may lose there jobs, but if the Jamie’s Italian there is like the one’s here then its grossly over-priced and not very good

    1. I found the UK store food quite nice, but also over-priced. The Gatwick store (which is one of the few staying open) is, as is typical for airport food outlets, horribly overpriced, but for some reason always busy
