Seven beats 10’s big night of reality

Ratings: Front Bar slaughters Nine's Footy Show. MasterChef tops entertainment shows.

With 2 big reality shows from 7:30 – 11pm, last night really should have been 10’s to win, but it was not to be with Bachelor unable to gather up enough fans to stop Seven claiming the night. Even on primary share it had to settle for third.

MasterChef Australia topped the entertainment shows at 680,000 and led the demos while Bachelor in Paradise concluded with 454,000 and 417,000 for its Tell-All reunion.

Bachelor was behind Seven’s Front Bar / Britain’s Got Talent combo from about 9 – 9:50pm but led from that point onwards, with its audience nevertheless loyal to the end.

At 427,000 viewers Seven’s Front Bar absolutely slaughtered Nine’s Footy Show on just 97,000. How can this continue?

Seven network won the night at 31.2%, then Nine 24.5%, 10 21.3%, ABC 15.6% and SBS 7.4%.

Seven News was #1 at 988,000 / 953,000 for Seven then Home and Away (610,000), The Chase (549,000 / 333,000), The Front Bar (427,000) and Britain’s Got Talent (373,000).

The Project drew 443,000 / 245,000, 10 News First was 405,000 and Pointless was 191,000 for 10.

On ABC it was ABC News (682,000), 7:30 (546,000), Escape from the City (423,000), Sammy J (296,000), Doctor Foster (223,000), Would I Lie to You? (201,000) and The Drum (172,000).

Secrets of Britain (273,000 / 218,000) led for SBS then SBS World News (130,000) and Project Blue Book (106,000).

Bluey topped multichannels again at 172,000.

The Morning Show: 127,000 / 82,000

  1. It’s seems strange that ABC Kids/Comedy dominates the top 20 multi-channel programs (even though kids under 16 aren’t included in the survey) but trails the other networks secondaries in the aggregates.

  2. Hi David, for those morning show results – are you able to clarify at all please how the networks code these portions of the show? I realise you may have addressed this before, but can’t find anything. Thanks!

  3. As a regular watcher of the Marngrook Footy Show on NITV on a Thursday night, I’m wondering if you have a comparison between Footy Show viewers in Melbourne and Marngrook Footy Show viewers in Melbourne!! Cheers.

    1. That would be interesting to know. Personally i record Marngrook each week and make sure i watch it. Good panel, interesting interviews and good insight into each upcoming game. The new Footy Show i really couldn’t care less about and i used to love The Footy Show.

    2. I don’t know the figures. But I do know that Marngrook Footy Show is one of the highest rating, if not the highest rating shows on NITV. This is due to the channel ratings share consistently being considerably higher on the day of broadcast, compared with every other day.

      1. Thanks David!! That said, if three years someone said that in 2019 Marngrook would be getting over a third of the Melbourne viewers of Nine’s Footy Show, no one would have believed it!!

  4. MC is probably going through the “ho hum” stage ,we are not watching this year it doesn’t excite us anymore , we watched the first episode this year, but we looked at each other and said, no , that’s enough.

  5. 11pm is just a bit too late, I think. Given that it was over two hours long, maybe they should’ve just not had MasterChef yesterday and run Bachelor from 7.30 to 9.50pm instead.

      1. Yep, that it was the top entertainment show and topped all 3 demo’s (advertisers dream) says it was just a low night for TV all up, yes MC got 835,000 on comparative days last year but it also started a week later last year so that caparison may be a bit off anyway.
