Alcohol is the most widely used and most commonly treated drug in Australia. The average Australian over the age of 15 drinks about 9.5L of pure alcohol every year – that’s 224 stubbies of beer, 38 bottles of wine, 17 bottles of cider, four bottles of spirits and 33 cans of premixed drink (source ABS). So what happens when drinking habits become problematic? Eight former alcoholics open the lid and share their sobering truths.
