2019 Logie Awards: guide

Nominees, presenters, performers & broadcast details for TV's night of nights.

Logie fever is in the air on the Gold Coast with a Who’s Who of Australian Television assembled for the 61st TV Week Logie Awards.

Final guests will arrive today from around the country as rainclouds -hopefully- part for a night of glitz and glam (and hopefully a little bit of blue sky).

Rehearsals were underway yesterday while many guests arrived late due to delays at Sydney airport, while crews were assembling the red carpet and a set for the Today show broadcast.

Publicists were madly shuffling talent from interview to interview as fans were snapping selfies with stars arriving. Industry events yesterday were held by SBS, Stan and Screen Producers Australia attended by Qld premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Screen Queensland CEO Tracey Viera. Nine execs were out in force including Hugh Marks, Michael Healy, Adrian Swift, Hamish Turner plus Stan’s Mike Sneesby, Marshall Heald fom SBS and Matthew Deaner from Screen Producers Australia.

Much of the chatter has centered around whether Tom Gleeson will snatch Gold, and whether it is hijacking or fair play….

  1. Tom Gleeson was a classic & enjoying Tony Martin doing the announcements, the Logies have been much more enjoyable to watch now that they don’t take themselves too seriously. Still find it weird watching it in the middle of winter though!

  2. Well done David for another exemplary Logie preparation and celebration. I hope it is for you, other than busy and crazy an enjoyable day and night. Your tireless efforts and journalistic skill in wrangling all the major players needs to be affirmed and applauded. Have a great Logies!

    1. Well said Dave, and I second that. Those of us who appreciate the Logies also appreciate the effort David puts into covering them for us. Thanks David

  3. What does Pete Heliar have to do to even get a nomination? Or Tommy Little? Or Chris Brown? Or innumerable light entertainment performers or actors? People power is I guess at the heart of modern day Logies and not that different to the Logies of old except then generally the same names would appear year in year out and often repetitive wins. So I don’t complain with the fact that no person has won Gold back to back for yonks. I loved through endless Lisa Mccune or Ray Martin wins. It’s always curious as to whom the campaigns get behind this last decade.

    1. I’ve voted for Peter Helliar the last couple of years but he never gets nominated. I think ch 10 & The Project should really get behind him & campaign hard for him next year. Or maybe Tom can. Carrie & Walleed have both won, I think it’s Peter’s turn now. He’s been around for a while now, since Rove days.

  4. Gaz, Once upon a time people knew every characters names from shows like Prisoner ie: The Freak, Bea Smith – that just doesn’t happen anymore. Too many choices! That’s why after every Logies or Aarias people say they hadn’t heard of many of the nominations!

    1. I don’t really agree. I takes time to become a household name regardless of era. Alf Stewart, Karl & Susan, Nina Proudman, Cleaver Greene, even the Cash Cow all well known characters.

  5. It will be strange to see Dave Hughes not come out and do the opening. He sort of sets it off for the night. I’m sure a few people in the room will be relieved that he won’t be there to be part of his jokes.

  6. It pains me to say it, but I haven’t watched 90 percent of the nominations. In this fragmented age of digital TV, Netflix and the internet tribalism is dead – why is why these award show sare becoming increasing irrelevant.

    1. Approximately 3 million Australians watch FTA TV each night, so hardly irrelevant. Most people I know don’t have Foxtel or any streaming services.
