Ita Buttrose to meet PM over AFP raid

ABC Chair & Prime Minister to meet this afternoon over the raid on national broadcaster.

ABC Chair Ita Buttrose is due to meet Prime Minister Scott Morrison this afternoon to express concerns over the raid by the Australian Federal Police.

Buttrose has defended the public broadcaster and public interest journalism and asked for assurances the ABC not be subject to future raids. Last week she complained to newly-installed federal Communications Minister Paul Fletcher.

Protestors angry over two recent raids on journalists will also gather outside Fletcher’s office today.

The ABC has two weeks to appeal the search warrant and seek the return of the documents and is considering legal options.

Last week the raid on ABC drew headlines and condemnation from around the world including on BBC, CNN, New York Times, European Broadcasting Union and Al Jazeera.

Yesterday Buttrose was honoured with a Companion of the Order of Australia.
