Logie Awards 2019: winners

Winners: MasterChef, Mystery Road, Gogglebox, The Project, HYBPA?, Bloom, Gardening Australia.

The TV Week Logie Awards are underway at The Star on the Gold Coast.

“Welcome to the last ever Logie Awards,” said opening presenter (and Gold nominee) Tom Gleeson.

Gleeson took aim at Karl Stefanovic, Married at First Sight, 10’s ratings, Grant Denyer, Foxtel and more.

“I think the reason they asked me to do the opening is because Channel 9 has run out of stars. They don’t have any left. They have new rule on breakfast TV: if you are too entertaining, they fire you. Am I right, Karl? If you’re too entertaining, they fire you. What I’m saying is Kochie, your job is safe.”

“It’s been a weird year for TV hasn’t it. Cricket was on Seven. Tennis on Nine. The Footy Show was on-air,” he continued.

“The Logies is like a house party: The ABC, we’re like the old neighbours complaining about the noise. Channel Seven is like the sensible family that never gets invited to parties. Channel 10 is the younger people that make a lot of noise even though no-one is listening. Channel 9 is like the divorced dad that hosts the party and spends the whole night trying to root SBS.”

  1. I know that it is a national sport to boo-boo the Logies, but I think that most of the winners of the last few years have been better. How good was it seeing Mystery Road win the Most Popular Drama (with Wentworth last year)? A nice change seeing Deborah Mailman and Luke McGregor winning the Popular Acting Awards. How good was it seeing Dylan Alcott win New Talent for The Set (despite almost no one actually watching his show……). His speech was great, and his odd sports commentary at the Tennis and the Invictus Games were great in the last year.

  2. I’m delighted to see some of my favourites win (Australian Survivor, MasterChef, Wentworth, Tom Gleeson). However I really don’t get why the Logies are regarded with such wide disdain. I’m proud of the quality television we produce and would like to see more. We *should* be celebrating the industry we have. Along the way, we will agree and disagree with various winners but let’s support our home produced entertainment, get more people watching and make more. Congratulations to all the winners!

  3. I don’t understand why the presenters are preceding to tell us all the nominees and what they are there for before proceeding to actually get to the nomination show reel which shows us all the nominees and what they are there for…? It’s baffling. It would shave probably 4 and a half hours off this 13 hour production…

      1. The graphics are great… and the overall production value is quite good… but geez, the Logies continue to lag behind in this very fickle, shaky modern era of Award shows in so many areas… how a production like this can nearly drag into the presumedly best part of 5 hours is beyond me… and Tony Martin’s jokes about how long it’s going no longer cut the mustard I’m afraid… self referential humour is lazy when it is repeatedly doing the same thing year in, year out… almost giving themselves a pass on it because they are woke to it and are ‘humorously’ referencing it… sorry, no more! Just fix it.

        1. After ruining the show with Tony Martin’s crap last year “they” get him back. Pointless drivel. And I also hate the roving host talking gibberish to celebrities at the tables.

Clearly they either don’t use focus groups, or ignore their recommendations.

And oddly, after importing the cast of Young Sheldon to announce an award they pushed Rebecca Gibney out to do the Gold. I love Rebecca but there was simply no consistency, the show was all over the shop.

  4. Logies need to have an award for best News Presenter as News is a major part of all networks and the ratings leading into and out of each bulletin is crucial to networks day or night programming. Logies are going well tonight. Cannot expect everyone to be perfect and funny but overall it’s been entertaining and good fun. Just need an extra category for best news presenter as the networks have quiet a few therefore no shortage of nominees.

    1. Only potential issue with that is news presenters are mostly per-state, so they might not be recognised by a national audience outside of their home state. The other shows are all national so the actors / hosts can be recognised by everyone.

    1. Best suited for something on Nickelodeon or something, they were terrible. As were the cast of Sheldon or whatever it was – obviously all graduates from the Bindi Irwin school of performance.

    1. Yes. I’m quite surprised by many of the winners this year too when you look at it in previous years. I believe the issue this time around is many people didn’t think they had to vote for a second time. In other years you just voted once in the categories and those announced as nominated were the ones who had the most votes and so TV Week already knew who the winner was out of them.

Now after they have received votes to make up those who are nominated they open the voting for a second time for people to then vote out of those who got the most votes. I think many people who initially voted in the first round did not return to vote in the second round thinking they only had to vote once but all that did was decide the nominations. So those who voted for many of the teen soapie stars and so forth have not returned and instead many of the ABC drama actors are winning, whereas…

      1. No, its because this year they instigated mobile phone verification of the votes so you couldn’t multi-vote like in past years unless you bought a whole heap of pay-as-you-go phones 🙂
