10 has released a first look at its upcoming murder mystery from CJZ, My Life Is Murder, featuring Lucy Lawless.

While a date is yet to be confirmed I would tip this to succeed Five Bedrooms in a few weeks time.

Looking for a new murder mystery series with a complex, charismatic and compelling investigator? Well look no further than 10’s new drama My Life Is Murder.

Starring international feminist icon and pop culture legend Lucy Lawless in her first Australian lead role, My Life Is Murder is an irreverent mystery of the week series, featuring fearless and unapologetic Alexa Crowe (Lucy Lawless) whose unique skills and insights into the darker quirks of human nature, allow her to provoke, comfort and push the right buttons as she unravels the truth behind the most baffling of crimes.

A brilliant, charismatic and ever-so-slightly scruffy ex-homicide detective, Alexa has built her life around her career. And she’s good at it. Really good. Alexa has always been the sort of investigator who can’t leave an injustice alone. An unsolved murder is like an irritating pebble in her shoe. So, she becomes a particularly vocal pebble for everyone else until she can solve the case and bring justice to the victim.

Cue former colleague and long-time friend Detective Inspector Kieran Hussey (Bernard Curry) who quickly realises it would only be a matter of time until Alexa started sticking her nose in cases that intrigued her. So, he might as well get the benefit of her talent on some of his trickier cases and brings her back to “consult”. A favour for a friend if you will.

But just why did Alexa leave the force? Well, it’s kind of a fascinating story, although one of the few Alexa doesn’t like telling.

My Life Is Murder also stars NIDA graduate Ebony Vagulans as ambitious millennial data analyst Madison Feliciano and will feature a stellar line-up of guests including Danielle Cormack, Don Hany, Lisa Hensley, Magda Szubanski, Nadine Garner and Dilruk Jayasinha.

My Life Is Murder is a CJZ production for Network 10. Principle production investment from Network 10 in association with Screen Australia. Financed with support from Film Victoria.

  1. still can’t figure this one out.
    the casting looks really well done, but unfortunately I have a feeling the storyline is going to be a disappointment. Will give it a go though.

  2. Even from the blurb, it’s difficult to get a read on the vibe of this show. It feels different in some fashion and kinda has me intrigued for that reason. The trailer didn’t really help on that front, but concerns me a little. I think the big question here is whether or not this is played entirely straight. Do you know David? If so, I’m already worried for it.

      1. Fingers crossed! This promo makes it look very formulaic and hokey. I was hoping that it would at least be as entertaining as Elementary.

  3. The promo was quite tacky, and I wish we could have heard Lucy say more than just a few stock-ish phrases as I couldn’t make out what accent she was putting on. She sounded more Kiwi than Aussie, but we weren’t given much to work with. Either way, she’s a great get for 10, but am I the only one getting sick of seeing of Ryan Corr in practically *everything*?

    And I’m not sure why Publicity thinks that a NIDA graduate would entice viewers. I’m not aware of any UK or US dramas that boast the casting of fresh acting school graduates.

    I shall reserve judgement until it premieres.

  4. The more Lucy “Flawless” Lawless on TV screens the better!

    I hope that this is good and not some bland, cheap, paint-by-numbers series which wastes Lawless’ talent. Lawless doesn’t strike me as someone who’d sign on unless she thought it had potential.
