Origin rules Sunday as NSW Blues smash Qld Maroons

Ratings: Nine smiling as Origin sets up for a tie-breaking third match. House Rules & Masterchef lift.

A drubbing 38-6 by the NSW Blues over Queensland Maroons in State of Origin II was just what the network ordered with a massive 1.96 million viewers. There were 833,000 viewing in Sydney, 642,000 in Brisbane and 167,000 in Perth, a record for the host city.

The number was down on Origin I but with one win each it sets up for a nail-biting Origin III on July 10.

Despite such competition House Rules increased its audience, at 743,000 it was the best performer in entertainment shows. MasterChef Australia was also up at 619,000 then Shetland (507,000).

Sport was also good for SBS with the FIFA Women’s World Cup at 270,000 for the post-match in the early morning.

Nine Network won the night with 39.6% then Seven 26.7%, 10 14.6%, ABC 13.7% and SBS 5.4%.

Nine News drew 1.02m for Nine.

Seven News won is slot at 1.14m viewers. Sunday Night was 422,000 and Code Blue: Murder was 195,000.

The Project drew 457,000 / 260,000 for 10 then 10 News First (286,000), FBI (237,000 / 151,000) and Bondi Rescue (162,000).

ABC News (703,000) led for ABC. Harrow (466,000), Compass (220,000) and McKellen: Playing the Part (137,000) comprised the rest of the night.

On SBS it was The Rise of the Clans (151,000), The Sugar Conspiracy (119,000) and SBS World News (112,000).

7mate’s Captain America movie led multichannels at 187,000.

  1. I assume the move to have one game on a Sunday was part of a broadcast agreement to boost ratings?

    Will this be enough for 9 to claim this week or will 7 come back and even it up?
