Returning: Dr. Pimple Popper

Dr. Pimple Popper returns for a second season to TLC.

Not a show I particularly care to sample (even the photos make me squirm) but Dr. Pimple Popper returns for a second season to TLC on Monday.

The undisputed queen of pimple-popping returns to TLC to slay lipomas, cysts and life altering skin ailments while transforming the lives of her patients in the new season of cult phenomenon, Dr Pimple Popper launching Monday 1 July at 8:30pm.

If you don’t know who Dr Pimple Popper is, allow us to bring you up to speed. A bona fide global sensation, Dr Sandra Lee aka Dr Pimple Popper is one of America’s top dermatologists. With over 5.4 million YouTube subscribers, 3.3 million Instagram followers and 2.3 million Facebook fans she has single handedly pioneered the fastest growing medical fascination in decades. Her ‘popping’ videos are watched religiously and have generate billions of views from a growing community of popaholics who love to watch her perform extractions. But, more importantly, she’s changing the lives of people suffering from a range of debilitating skin ailments – which is at the heart of the series.

Now Dr Pimple Popper returns to TLC to pop, squeeze – but never squirm – as she tackles her biggest cases yet! This addictive, one-of-a-kind series follows Dr Lee at her California-based clinic, where she treats various eye-catching dermatological problems. With her passion, signature splash guard, ease and warm bedside manner that viewers have come to know and love, Dr Lee is fiercely determined to remedy these skin issues in the hopes of allowing her patients to reclaim their confidence, free of embarrassment.

From a Dorsocervical Fat Pad (back lump) to Hidradenitis Suppurativa (inverted pimples), Dr Lee has almost seen it all. In some cases, these skin conditions are so severe that patients simply dream of carrying out daily activities like cleaning, cooking, driving a car – even putting things in their pockets – without being in constant pain. Some patients are so good at disguising their ailments, their partners and co-workers don’t even know what they’re hiding.

This season, Dr Lee treats a patient with a cyst that resembles a horse hoof; a mysterious scaly skin condition that’s baffled doctors for decades; a black mass that runs a high risk it could be life threatening; and lumps and bumps aplenty sprouting from head to toe. A previous patient returns and goes under the knife to remove a growth that’s making his life unbearable, whilst another tries to flee the clinic before Dr Lee can operate!

In the first episode we meet Taylore, a gorgeous 17-year-old who feels like her life (and her modelling career) can’t truly begin until the keloids on her ears are removed. Taylore feels the raised scar tissue makes her look more like she belongs on Santa’s sleigh than the runway, but Dr Lee is ready to transform Taylore’s confidence, so she can pursue her goals. For Jose, Dr Lee is his last hope, after doctor’s have failed to help treat a bulge on the side of his head for the past two years. Meanwhile Ken has lived with painful bumps from his head to his toes since his high school days, and in turn has struggled with low self-esteem. Eager to regain the confidence he lost as a teenager, he hopes Dr Lee can finally rid him of his condition, so he can provide for his family.

You won’t want to look, but you just can’t look away, as Dr Pimple Popper shows the heart, humour, and potential for happiness buried beneath some of the most common, complex, and completely unexpected skin conditions. Find out what makes Dr Lee irre-cyst-ible to millions around the world!

Monday 1 July at 8:30pm on TLC.

  1. Season two was great, not sure why Foxtel decided to slow track it and replay season one over and over. Hopefully Foxtel don’t do what they did with S1 and make the surgery and gross scenes black and white rather than retain the colour version shown in the US.
