Veteran actor Bryan Marshall, who appeared in soaps including Neighbours and Home & Away, has died, aged 81.

Agent and friend Esta Charkham yesterday tweeted, “So sad that my dear old chum Bryan Marshall has gone on ahead. A wonderful actor – he was so good you never noticed how good he was. He was a valued chum. His credits are a catalogue of classic British and Australian TV. I will always remember him with a smile on my face because he was the kindest man in the world and a really lovely actor.

“He was a Battersea boy who got a scholarship to RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Art), a proper working class actor who had a fantastic and eclectic career. I will remember him with love and respect.”

UK-born Marshall became a familiar face on TV following his appearance in soaps including Neighbours and Home and Away as well as Water Rats, All Saints, Stingers and A Country Practice.

He was also the host of Australia’s Most Wanted, and played Commander Talbot in the 1997 Bond flick, The Spy Who Loved Me alongside Roger Moore.

Uk credits als included Spindoe, Persuasion, Warship, United!, The Forsyte Saga, Dixon of Dock Green, Z-Cars, The Saint, The Avengers, The Onedin Line, Out, The Professionals, Return of the Saint, Buccaneer, The Chinese Detective, Robin of Sherwood, Heartbeat, The Bill and Dalziel and Pascoe.

The last series he appeared in was A Moody Christmas.

  1. I remember him best from Prisoner as the evil doctor practising hypnosis on Cass Parker and Bobby Mitchell. “What must you do, Cass? Gotta kill Bobby”
