Airdate: Dying to Live

Aussie-made doco will screen on SBS VICELAND to mark Donate Life Week 2019.

Aussie-made documentary Dying to Live will screen on SBS VICELAND to mark Donate Life Week 2019.

Donate Life Week aims to raise awareness of the important issue of organ donation, a theme at the heart of Dying to Live.

Dying to Live explores the complex world of organ and tissue donation. It follows individuals and families as they navigate Australia’s healthcare systems, facing long and heart-wrenching waits on the organ donor waiting list.

Through Dying to Live we learn that the need for organ and tissue donation does not discriminate – it touches Australians from all walks of life and across all ages.

From little Levi, the two-year-old who needs a new kidney and seven-year-old Zaidee, who saves multiple lives when her organs are donated after her untimely death from a brain aneurysm to mother Holly, who needs a double lung transplant, we learn the need for organ and tissue transplants can affect anyone at any time.

Director Richard Todd said he was thrilled SBS Viceland had chosen to show the movie at the start of Donate Life Week.

“Dying to Live is all about demystifying the organ and tissue transplant issue and helping Australians understand this really is a life and death situation, but it’s something we can do more about,” he said.

“Every Australian can make a difference simply by agreeing to donate their organs. And that’s what Donate Life Week is all about, encouraging Australians to register for organ donation and to have a conversation with loved ones about their decision to donate.

“It’s great to see SBS getting behind this week and this important topic.”

Donate Life Week runs from Sunday 28 July to Sunday 4 August.
