Airdate: Women on the Verge

Whilst their friends seem to be increasingly in control of their lives, these 3 women are frustrated theirs are moving in the opposite direction.

2018 Irish comedy Women on the Verge begins tonight on ABC Comedy.

The series co-created by Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe) tells the darkly comic tale of three career-driven friends who share the same nagging concern – that whilst their friends and colleagues seem to be increasingly in control of their lives, their own lives seem to be moving in the opposite direction.

Women on the Verge is a six-part comedy drama set in Dublin that follows the lives of three women in their 30s, played by Kerry Condon, Nina Sosanya and Eileen Walsh. Whilst everyone else is settling down, married with kids, and increasingly in control of their lives, Laura, Katie and Alison seem to be moving in the opposite direction. Women on the Verge follows these flawed and complex friends as they navigate the challenges of life, love and relationships.

Created by Sharon Horgan and Lorna Martin, and adapted from Martin’s critically acclaimed comic memoir ‘Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown’, which was in turn based on her much loved Grazia column Conversations with My Therapist, the show has been described as a frank, hilarious and often shocking love letter to women who haven’t ticked all the boxes and whose lives are a bit messier and a bit more complicated than they ever thought they’d be.

In episode one, after a potential work promotion, a family christening and a messy love triangle collide disastrously, Laura decides it’s time to take action to stop herself from completely unravelling. Alison, desperate for a baby and sick of first dates decides to get back with her ex Martin, despite not being in love with him.

Single parent Katie backs out of an artificial insemination to give her daughter Ella a sibling but finds out some surprising news concerning her ex-husband’s new wife Siobhan.

Written and created by Sharon Horgan and Lorna Martin.

9:40pm tonight on ABC Comedy.
