Good news for Tom Long

Actor Tom Long is in remission following life-saving medical treatment in the US.

Long, best known for SeaChange and The Dish, had been given just 3-12 months to live having battling multiple myeloma for the last seven years.

Earlier this year he travelled to the US  to harvest his T-cells, and “reboot” his immune system, but says it has saved his life.

“Oh without a doubt, it’s saved my life absolutely,” Long told The Sunday Project. “I was a man with no hope really, not much, very limited and now I can reframe and repurpose my life and it doesn’t have to be about cancer, I can go and focus on what I want to do.”

Long’s haematologist Professor Miles Prince said, “Is Tom cured? I don’t know. But I can tell you if you go back to the original CAR T-cell therapy patients, who had acute leukaemia, they were considered incurable and a lot of them are still alive today.”

  1. This is just the best news I’ve heard for ages. In a World seemingly full of bad news lately, this is just wonderful. I hope he continues to do well.

  2. So pleased to see Tom doing so much better.
He seems like a truly beautiful person.
    A really uplifting story.
Really hope he is permanently free of the cancer and can maybe even get back to acting eventually.

  3. Amazing news. Tom Long is one of the most glorious screen presences in Australia – I am so pleased for him and his family, and wish a long and healthy life for this beautiful man.

  4. Subconsciously, I was expecting the worst at any time after the news of his illness broke, but it’s good to hear (and see!) that he is doing well. His appearance now when compared to when he was last photographed is like night and day.

I wish him and his family the very best.
