John Jarratt not guilty

Wolf Creek star cleared of rape allegation more than 40 years ago.

Wolf Creek star John Jarratt has been cleared of raping his housemate more than 40 years ago.

The 66-year-old star had pleaded not guilty in the NSW District Court to raping a woman in 1976 at the Sydney house they shared with his wife, Rosa Miano, and at least one other person.

The woman, who went to police in 2017, testified she was woken about 3am by Jarratt, alleging he raped her. She told a jury she didn’t go to police about her allegations earlier because she feared she wouldn’t be believed.

Jarratt had always maintained the sex was consensual.

Outside court, Jarratt said he was “over the moon” and thanked his legal team.

“I’m just so relieved,” he said.

“It took 15 minutes for [the jury] to make up their mind. It was unanimous.

“No man should have to go through what I went through.”

  1. Guilty or innocent, waiting 43 years to report a sexual assault is really strange. Whatever happened to the Statute of Limitations ? I hope the complainant is okay though and can move on, but I also hope John Jarratt hasn’t suffered too much. It would be awful to be accused if such a heinous crime when you’re innocent

      1. Ah, thanks for that David. Perhaps it should become part of our Justice system too, except in rare or extenuating circumstances.

  2. Even though John Jarratt is an internationally recognised public figure waiting a period of over 40 years does seem like a legal case too far.
