John Jarratt to pursue defamation against newspaper

John Jarratt is pursuing legal action against Nationwide News after winning his case convincingly on Friday.

Actor John Jarratt is pursuing legal action against Nationwide News and journalist Jonathan Moran after winning his case convincingly on Friday.

Lawyer Chris Murphy has tweeted:

Defamation proceedings were commenced in NSW Supreme Court on 16th November 2018. The civil Statement of Claim was filed pending resolution of police charges. Documents will now be served on the defendant. John Jarratt v Nationwide News court mention 18th August next.

The Wolf Creek star was forced to deny sexual assault allegations in November 2017 following media reports, ahead of being formally charged with rape in August 2018.

On Friday a jury cleared him of all charges, after deliberating for just 15 minutes.

In May actor Geoffrey Rush won a defamation case against Nationwide News after he was named in a 2017 story around a Sydney Theatre Company production. The newspaper is currently appealing.
