Both MasterChef Australia and House Rules wrapped with their lowest ever finales last night -in the end Nine won the evening.
Strictly speaking Australia Ninja Warrior beat MasterChef‘s grand final last night, with Nine pulling 887,000 against heated competition.
MasterChef Australia grand final drew 831,000 for the bulk of its show, rising to 992,000 for the moment Larissa was announced as winner (the latter falls into a different timeslot to Ninja). The Winner Announced was still enough to top the demos but it was down on 2018 when 1.13m / 1.32m watched the respective parts.
House Rules was caught in the crossfire for its grand final at 730,000 viewers, down on 2018’s 850,000 / 920,000 portions.
Nine won Tuesday with 28.3% then Seven 27.7%, 10 21.9%, ABC 13.6% and SBS 8.5%.

How good was Wentworth last night? Tense, disorienting and suspenseful.
I personally think the whole OzTAM system is outdated. I don’t know anyone with an OzTAM box and I don’t think it’s a true reflection of what everyone is watching. Maybe come up with a new idea gauge viewership, especially when people can stream live on the apps ( unless your trying to watch 10 peach of course)
The reason why you wouldn’t know anyone with a box is because they are top secret. You cannot tell anyone that you have one.
I really don’t understand this whole box thing . y can’t u just tell what everybody is watching ?? I’m a celeb could b out ranking married @ sight and we wouldn’t even no lol ?
This is the first time I can remember the House Rules and Masterchef finals being on the same night. Has it happened before?
Surely this split the overnight viewing audience, as these two competitions attract a similar demographic, and many would be watching both. When the time-shifting results come out, it might tell a different story about those who watched one and recorded the other.
Interesting that House Rules didn’t have a winners announced ratings block.
in 2019 if your show is getting 800,000 plus viewers its rating well the days of millions watching are over .streaming has killed that .
“the days of millions watching are over”. Yet MAFS averaged over 1.5 million and about 2 million for the final. Lego Masters also over the million. As Pauline would say….Please explain?
Very rare to see total audiences over a million-so many different channels and viewing options these days, not just ABC, SBS and the 3 commercial channels splitting the whole nation between them-simple enough?
>> heated competition
Boom boom.
So MasterChef Australia and House Rules both have the lowest ever ratings season and the lowest ever ratings grand finals. Probably because the formats for both have become tired and the seasons are so drawn out and long. On the other hand Channel 9 have been very smart by having just 3 week seasons of Lego Masters and Australia Ninja Warrior and a relatively short season of The Voice. The result was that all three programs were ratings winners. I reckon The Block will also nosedive this year.
Both shows have been running for years, and while I enjoyed them for many of those years, it’s time to stop flogging the dead horse.
Maybe the seasons could be a bit shorter as well. House Rules seemed like it was going forever, I got a bit sick of seeing it on 7’s timetable every night.
Crazy how that they all had grand finale on same night.
Ninja final next week.
My mistake.
That’ll do well
It’ll just be slightly over a million obviously ..
