Renewed: Euphoria

Provocative youth drama renewed for a second season by HBO after just 4 episodes.

Provocative youth drama Euphoria has been renewed for a second season by HBO after just 4 episodes.

The series, loosely based on an Israeli format reinvented by Sam Levinson, sees Zendaya starring as a drug-addicted teen in modern America alongside Aussie Jacob Elordi.

Euphoria creator Sam Levinson has built an incredible world with an extraordinary cast led by the supremely talented Zendaya,” Francesca Orsi, executive vice-president HBO Programming. “We are so grateful that he chose HBO as the home for this groundbreaking series. We look forward to following these complex characters as their journeys continue through the challenging world they inhabit.”

Euphoria is averaging 5.5 million viewers per episode across playouts / platforms. The show has been so explicit it has generated plenty of press, including in Australia where Foxtel has had to censor some scenes to comply with local classification rules.

It is currently screening Monday nights on FOX Showcase.

  1. Considering Euphoria uses its own explicitness to gain publicity censoring a fake penis in Australia seems a bit ridiculous when the SBS has shown brief images of the real thing in the past, during its adult movie week. This show is another example of the coming of age theme with a dark undertone that have come to our screens lately, I’m sure everyone will have an opinion.
