SBS World Movies is on the air

International arthouse films from across the globe are now screening on Channel 32.

SBS World Movies launched at 10am this morning on Channel 32.

Drawing upon a library of international titles, it features channel premieres around 7:30 and 9:30pm slots, Japanese animation on Saturdays, Women in Film on Thursday nights and a movie showcase on French actor Romain Duris on Tuesday nights.

Like most multichannels there is a high rotation of titles too (see below), with the oldest flick currently scheduled as the Jacques Tati classic Playtime from 1967 and the newest as 2018.

SBS Director of Television and Online Content, Marshall Heald said: “SBS World Movies is a celebration of diversity – diversity of ideas, stories, talent and content. It’s a uniquely SBS channel that will bring the very best of world cinema to Australian audiences free of charge. What other network would showcase critically acclaimed international dramas alongside beloved anime from Studio Ghibli? We can’t wait to hear what audiences think of the channel.”

  1. Wonder how long it will take for SBS to regret the loss of viewers, like 7Flix did? Oh well, it is really no loss – Viceland was pretty inferior anyway.

  2. i had 32 on my TV last night (Sunday night) before it became world movies and when i switched it tonight (Monday) it has a blank screen then it disappeared totally of channel list

    1. Maybe you need to rescan your TV? I had to read an one of mine and the other one automatically did it for me.
Do you receive the other Mpeg4 HD channels?
If not, unfortunately, you won’t receive this one. Easiest way to check is to see if you are receiving Viceland on 31.

      1. Yes, older TV’s may have issues tuning in, but with this content looking good in MPEG-4 it may be time for a 4K / UHD upgrade for those who can afford it. SBS’s World Movies is once again showing the way with this excellent channel.

      2. i did a rescan and it came up then it disappeared i can get all the other HD channel including 31 no problems only with this channel

      1. The SBS tend to badly edit in their ads giving the impression they are switched on by a timer machine, perhaps the SBS should review how they impose their streaming advertising at some point in the future as it is mostly intrusive, repetitive, and very annoying especially when it raises little or no advertising revenue and is just a time filler.

  3. SBS could consider occasionally showing movies from other countries, such as from countries in Africa, Eastern Europe and Middle East for variety. As well as short film programming blocks that were popular on SBS’ Eat Carpet and Shorts on Screen.

  4. And here’s what’s on Seven’s “movie channel” 7Flix tonight
    8:30: Modern Family
    9:00: Modern Family
    9:30: Modern Family
    10:00: Modern Family
    10:30: Modern Family
    11:00: Modern Family
    11:30: Modern Family

  5. David, as posted in the TV Lounge, as of this morning, Foxtel also has the WM channel, both on Cable and according to some postings on another forum, Satelite/ IQ4.
