The Block launch: “Maybe we’ve gone too far!”

Scott Cam tells guests at The Block launch that maybe they had finally met their match with The Oslo renovation.

The Block contestants opened their homes to media last night for the official launch of the 2019 season.

5 stunning homes at the former Oslo backpackers abode in St. Kilda were host to media, sponsors, execs including Nine’s Adrian Swift and Hamish Turner, plus Scott Cam, Shaynna Blaze and Darren Palmer. Also on hand were foremen Keith and Dan.

But with episodes yet to hit screens it was a strictly “No Photos” affair.

“It’s more than double the size of The Gatwick and six times the size of original Bondi apartments,” Scott Cam told guests.

“I can tell you that Executive Producers, Justin Sturzaker who is here tonight, and Dave Barbour and Julian Cress who are not here tonight, were saying that possibly this is too big. We like to push our contestants every year but this time we had a little bit of a team meeting and said, ‘Maybe we’ve gone too far.’

“I said to the boys, ‘We only need one team to finish to say it’s possible! The others …we don’t care about them!'” he laughed.

“We came very close to the end with maybe only one team who was going to finish. But they dug deep, worked hard, lots of tears, ups and downs, but they completed -I think you will agree- 5 of the most magnificent homes in St. Kilda.'”

The Block premieres 7pm Sunday on Nine.

  1. Why does it have to be harder each year? Isn’t it hard enough? I’d rather see more work & less personality clashes? Unfortunately it’s gone from a renovation show to a “reality show” in that there always has to be a villain. Yes, we know who this year’s is & he does come across as a real douche.
Let’s for next year, Block, look backwards a bit & get some new judges. And can we stop judging cushion choices?

  2. I miss the original concept of people renovating a “fixer upper” in their own style and selling it. Now it’s just do what the judges tell you or you’ll get a low score, Just copy everything the top couple is doing.

I started watching last years season and it was pretty much a repeat of the previous year and I was like nah I’m done with the standard 24 hour guest bedroom room reveal then bathroom. etc. Yawn

  3. Imagine what the contestants could create were the time constraints relaxed ever so slightly. But less drama so I guess no. I’ll give it a miss.
