US character actor and comedian, best known for Laugh-In, has died.

US character actor and comedian Arte Johnson, best known for Laugh-In, has died aged 90.

He died in Los Angeles of heart failure, having been battling bladder and prostate cancer.

Johnson was most familiar as Laugh-In‘s German soldier Wolfgang, who thought World War II was still going on, from 1968 to 1973. “Very interesting…” became his trademark catchphrase.

He also played dirty old man Tyrone F. Horneigh who sat down on a park bench beside Ruth Buzzi.

Amongst a long list of credits are The Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Dr. Kildare, McHale’s Navy, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, Love American Style, Lost in Space, The Partridge Family, The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Donna Reed Show, Kojak, The Dukes of Hazzard, Fantasy Island, Fame, Murder She Wrote, Hotel, Trapper John M.D., Night Court, The A-Team, The Love Boat, General Hospital, Mad About You plus voice work for Justice League Unlimited, The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, The Smurfs, DuckTales and Animaniacs.

Film credits include The Subterraneans, The President’s Analyst, Love at First Bite and Cannonball Run II.
